Totally agree, that about sums it up Tom.

Re: Big rehash - Strat into Dumble - what really works

Yes Dave, it's a must, at least in my case also.

My experience is that you have to hit V1 with a hefty amount of signal. Therefore, your Pup's strength controls the clean volume's position. For SCs I usually run a bit past #7 (on the dial), easy in my case to find the sweet spot.

All the best.

Good to hear that Jelle, it confirms I am not alone, hence I'm finally beginning to acquire good tastes!

Cheers!

Re: Big rehash - Strat into Dumble - what really works

Hi Tony, nice suggestion.

My clone is a low/high plate. I know you have a couple of EJ Strats, my best sound so far is a my EJ on the bridge with the tone control completely rolled off, amp in OD. Very, very creamy. Please try it and tell us what you heard.

All the best.

Re: Big rehash - Strat into Dumble - what really works

@Tony, thank you for the tip.

On the layout of #124 done by Martin and you, the 10uF bypass caps are on the clean, not on the OD as you just stated.

@Vibrato, nice topic, thanks for all the research.

All the best to both.

Re: how to test a SE output transformer

Once you've done the tests already mentioned, put main voltage on the primary. Make sure connections are covered/taped and safe from kids, pets, yourself. Run it for a while and it should stay cold. If there's an internal fault like a shorted turn it would get pretty hot and probably hum excessivel...

Re: how to test a SE output transformer

Thanks Phil, clear enough, hopefully someone else will post any additional knowledge on this subject. I have used Pete's posted method also. If I am not mistaken, the neon method is used because sometimes shorted windings don't have enough of a resistance value to be easily measured with a common DV...

Re: how to test a SE output transformer

Phil, I used your posted test method, it works. So this means that both primary and secondary windings are not shorted (nor opened), therefore the OT is good?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome! Great Dad you have! Have bought parts from him in the past and hopefully more in the future.

Seen your videos so I know who you are by reference already.

Enjoy the forum!

Re: Jubilee

Not sure I follow you. If you inverted the layout, just make sure the connections going from relay to DC supply and to board are the same. If DC voltage wires are connected properly, signal wires misconnection may cause no output or inverted operation but no harm will be done. Best wishes on the bul...

Re: Jubilee

Ceria has changed the relay circuit on their new 2550 (50W). Attached is the layout I used which is from 2009, it conforms to the Marshall schematic and to the 2555 you are building (powered from the heaters).

As John states, keep the diode.

Cheers!

Re: Jubilee

Yes Darin, green to ground (although it doesn't really matter in this case). Attached a picture of mine, it's a 2550 and the bias is taken from the HT winding, so it's different. Ceria kit with Sozos and Metroamp Tannies. Sounds pretty decent. If you ever get into problems with the relay circuit, re...

Re: Jubilee

Yes, take it slow, the tone stack wiring in tricky with that bass double pot adding to the complexity.

But looks like Slash's "Sweet child o mine" will be coming out of the speakers pretty soon. Hopefully will be the first tune you play on it as it's your creation!

Cheers!
