Re: Late to the Trainwreck party, gonna build one anyway.
I got all the materials, I think. Had some issues with getting the right vectorbord. So I got the proper material and had a machine shop grid drill it to spec. I could start building the new boards today. I actually hope to get started this afternoon. Post some build photos, if you have the time! A...

Re: Salary for touring guitar techs?
Is one of the perks of being a touring guitar tech that you get to throw TVs out the hotel window?

Good luck, dude. You'll get it. Just be yourself. Just remember, if you think it might be inappropriate, it is. Today's workplace is NOT like the workplace we all grew up in, nor are the coworkers what they used to be. Now there are cry rooms and gender neutral bathrooms

Re: SSS002, some observations
That's a very nice drawing Rootz! I may have to build one of these before all is said and done. I still need to build my 102 and Wonderland....

Wow, very cool! Glad to hear it has a new, happy home. They still sound good even with the master volume on 2 or 3. Thanks for the report.

This is a great combination, by the way.jarrodthebobo wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2024 12:47 am ( 820ohm/.68uf into 820ohm/.68uf into 820/.68uf, all cascaded)

Re: Magnatone build
After lots of fiddling, I am running V1 in parallel, output through 22nF to one Volume knob (wired Plexi style, not 5E3 style), and both V1 and V2 cathodes fully bypassed. The loss in volume/gain with the unbypassed caps wasn't cutting it for me. I ended up with a Tweed tone control (again) with 500...

Re: Magnatone build
So, I answered my own questions by converting a modded 5E3 into a Magnatone 213 (sans the vibrato circuit). The as-built schematic looks pretty much like what Steve posted. I used 22nF coupling caps in the preamp, instead of 47n. The direct coupled cathodyne PI works well (hey, and less parts too). ...

Re: Magnatone build
Smokebreak, Did you stick to the original schematic? Have you measured voltages? I am especially interested in the cathodyne; how balanced or unbalanced it is. I should clarify...I am interested in the lower part count, directly coupled cathodyne. I found a post from Gingertube on another forum sta...

Smokebreak, Did you stick to the original schematic? Have you measured voltages? I am especially interested in the cathodyne; how balanced or unbalanced it is. For the most part yes, but that was 10 years ago! Certainly I kept the PI and power section the same, as well as the vibrato section....als...

Right on, thanks. Those Troubadours are nice amps.
