Re: CT Grounds

It's one of these. The shot from the back.....makes the OT look 3x bigger than it really is. I took out the can cap...probably going to use 3 Radials and Term Strips, just because i have them laying around. Not going to do anything (permanent) that that would "Devalue" this piece of junk. Do not und...

Re: CT Grounds

Yes...i hear what you are saying.
This amp lay-out is not set up well.
Tube sockets in middle of chassis.
Power tube socket is V2.
Was made with a Can-Cap
etc etc
So it is not the easiest amp to wire per standard intelligence. :)

Re: CT Grounds

Wow...OK.
That will make my life easier. Not a whole lot of room in this chassis. :)
Thanks Again

CT Grounds

I am working on a Friends 1421, his is actually a Sears 10XL. It is, kind of, a cheap point to point mess. I am trying to clean it up, do a cap job, improve the heater wiring, etc etc. I have Never Heard one of these amps. Have no idea how Quiet/Noisy it was. The OT is the size of a quarter...seems ...

Re: No Amp Required

I suppose he is what you would call a "gifted player."
He CAN play electric, though I have only seen it once, I believe, on Youtube.
Hard to remember exactly.....but I think he was on stage with Bill Kirchen, and both were playing a telecaster. :)

Re: Orange-ish build

Yeah...Thank You. I was wondering about those (typically 220k) resistors. I Think this is the first time I have ever seen this rectifier, and the first time I have ever seen a "bridge" rectifier used with a PT CT. I did not even notice the screen voltage.....never really looked at an Orange schem be...

Re: Orange-ish build

Man.....what an impressive looking build.....the orange is spectacular. I guess I am lost on the rectifier. Is that what is called a Two Phase.? Is that the normal way the diodes are grounded.? Thank You Very Nice job....like the idea of using "just" 2x EL34. I sure do not see many of these getting ...

Always enjoy looking at your Work/Builds.
What are the little boards you use.? Are they conductive on one side, or are you wiring them.?
Thank You

Re: My vintage build

Not that I have much experience with this stuff.......but that is the first "Magic Eye" that goes in a vertical or horizontal, that I have seen.
Was that common at one time.?
I have only seen (the few that I have) the round iterations.
Very nifty looking build btw. :)

Re: I hate parts!

All true. That's why I'm setting up a repair station at the multidimensional crossroads of AES, Newark, Mouser, and McMaster. I'll pull my own parts as needed, and it can go on my tab. Oh Christ.....I'm a sick puppy. I will, sometimes, peruse McMaster-Carr even when I do not need to order anything....

Here's what he did:

-checked pre-amp tubes

-caps changed (not the cap cans)
I am NOT saying this is your cure, but anytime I see the word "checked", I always wonder the same thing.....how did he check them.?
Others have said, but if the can caps are original, or 20 years old.......
good luck

I trust you.
What brands of new caps have you checked, how many, and what were the numbers.?
Thank You

Re: Which electolytic caps for a 1964 Deluxe non-reverb?

Guys really get hung up about caps, don't they.? It seems to be the amp equivalent of motor oil for car dudes. :) Nichicon IC Xicon F&T Panasonic etc etc I have used a lot of IC and those "generic" caps from CE for quite a few years with no trouble. With the exception of the CE "brand".....prices se...
