Re: What is this 'tube' in a 65 Amp London Pro?

Here are some detailed specs: http://www.robertsaudiotech.com/designs/retrovalve.php#specs Only ~53mA for the heaters, instead of 300mA for 12AX7. Would they even need "heaters".? Maybe these things rectify the heater voltage to run the solid state device.? Aren't these some type of a transistor.? ...

Re: tone stack wiring

You've got the bass pot wired backwards and get rid of the 56K. The clockwise terminal of the bass pot goes to ground (you called it the input) and the center terminal goes to the 10K. That 10K gives you some mids and when you turn the bass pot all the way up, (where you effectively short the 10K o...

It is pretty much a Vox Treble/ Bass tone stack.
The whole amp is pretty much a Vox AC15.....isn't it.?
I cannot figure out what I have done wrong.
Let me look at the Vox Schem.......

tone stack wiring

Followed the Xits-10 schem. I am certainly NOT beyond forgetting to solder, or making a backward connection, and I have put a filter cap in polarity incorrect. But THIS.....I must be doing something fundamentally wrong. The Bass Pot has just a small effect. The Treble Pot has the biggest effect when...

Re: New source for Stancor A-3801 style Output Transformer

I have an old Stancor A-3801. I was going to use it someday, if I ever build an Express. Is there anything all unique about it.? Not sure what the Impedance of the primary is, or what power these OT are rated for....but other than they were used (for awhile) in a Train Wreck, is there something "spe...

Re: oscilloscope

Wow...I think I paid 450 for my BK scope about 6-7 years ago. And yeah.....it is a DEEP piece of equipment. :) You know how people are with used equipment, everything, not just scopes and guitar amps. I see those old Techtronix scopes on Ebay and Craigslist for 300-800 bux. Those are what.....from 1...

Re: DMM Tips and Tricks, Let's start a list.

Yeah...that is, kind of, what I thought. I have 2 DMM. My Amprobe was about 80 bux and my Extech was about 50. Looking at them, and their manuals, it would appear that neither of them are "True RMS". They are only used for tube amps, and basic stuff around the house, so it has not really been an iss...

Re: oscilloscope

Pardon my ignorance, but.....regards AF and tube guitar amps...what is the advantage of these digital scopes.?
That is to say, what can you do with one of these (very nice indeed) Digital Scopes that cannot be done with an Analog Scope.?
Thank You

Re: Solder iron timer

My Weller is the old fashoined type.....there is no kind of safety default to OFF. It stays on for as long as its switch is ON. I stole the 50 Minute Timer from a kitchen appliance (a vegetable steamer) .....I have been using it about 3-4 years now. I is just a simple, rotary switch that I installed ...

Re: DMM Tips and Tricks, Let's start a list.

I'll ask a "dumb question".
I profess.....I have no idea what the difference is between:
RMS
and
True RMS
I have "heard" that True RMS can account for phase shift of an inductive load. If so, does that "normally" apply to what we do with guitar amps.?
What exactly IS True RMS.?
Thank You

Re: O'scope Back to Basics for you guys... a learning game...

I wish there were more posts about scopes. Mine does way more than I know.....like deciphering the shape of the wave. I know what a distorted wave LOOKS like, but I do not know what it means. Some of our members are Real Good at reading the wave and judging what is going on with an amp, based on wha...
