Re: Carbon Films Flame Proof?

I can get 5W Kiwames from the UK easier than hunting down MOs.
The Kiwame are rebranded and overpriced Koa Speer SPR resistors. And yes, they are flame retardant.

Re: 5E3 first break-up

Power tubes. The cathodyne can swing more han 80 V, the 6V6s only need around 30 V + bias to reach full power.

Re: Substituting 5U4GB for GZ34 rectifier tube

Fender briefly used GZ34s in various amps, then switched to 5U4GBs. Your amps is probably an AB763, fitted with a 125PSD power transformer, which is designed for up to 3 A for the recto. The same xformer was used in the AB568 and later revisions of the Super Reverb with a 5U4GB. So you can safely us...

Anyone know who makes these for mojo?
Alnico models are (were?) sourced from Eminence, WGS assembles the ceramics, or so it seems.

Re: 6SQ7,6SN7?

I just got two 6SQ7 and a 6SN7.How would these be in a pre amp?By looking at the data sheet the SQ has an amp. fact. of 100,would these be too microphonic? The 6SQ7 is more or less half a 12AX7 plus a diode in octal guise. Can be an excellent preamp tube if well used. Microphony can be a problem wi...

Re: 6P14P-EV's

Even though it 's a beam tetrode it has characteristics very similar to EL34.
Closer to the 6P3S family IMO when it comes to curves.

Re: 6P14P-EV's

I did a quick google and came up with nuthin. Here's a .rar archive of 30 pages of original Russian data on the 6P14P family. Data comes in djvu format - a pdf would be 15 times larger. Freeware readers are available for all platforms. OK, there's no benefit at raring a djvu, but the board doesn't ...

Re: 6P14P-EV's

Slightly off-topic but given the price of NOS EL34 these days, is there a Sovietski "equivalent" that is worth trying? Nope. The EL34 wasn't rugged enough for our Soviet friends, they didn't bother to copy it. When they needed some they just got them from Eastern German or Polish factories producin...

Re: Trainwreck tube options

Dynamic <> static, particularly for a class B/not too deep AB push pull amp. Full dynamic dissipation happens only on peaks, and only on one half of the period - remember, we're dealing with a PP amp. Adding time in the equation and integrating these params for a complete period give a dissipation e...

Re: TAD 7025WA - Anyone tried it?

It's a custom version of the classic Sovtek. Better construction, three micas. Smoother response, low noise, nearly no microphonics - a boon when used as V1 in high gain amps. Well worth trying IMO.

Re: Trainwreck tube options

Swapping 6V6 for EL34's at 6k6 load impedance, 400V+, and fed by a robust SS-rectified power supply is a bit over the edge for plate dissipation, though, even if you re-bias. Static plate dissipation is set thru the bias control, dynamic diss. can be calculated and is AOK for a proper Express clone...
