Re: Liverpool speakers?

Hi Mark, The Scumnicos don't really sound like the Silvers you linked to...not to me anyway. Those sounded more like current Celestion Blues to me versus Scumnicos. I'll try to record a clip or two between Celestion Blues and the Scumnicos. I know Scumback markets the Scumnicos as Vox Silver clones,...

Re: Liverpool speakers?

Quick update...I did a few tweaks today. First off, I swapped preamp tubes. Following Ultrasound Studios' lead, I installed a Mullard 12AX7 in V1 and an Amperex Bugle Boy in V2. I used my old standby for the phase inverter...a balanced Sovtek 12AX7LPS. I also got the Scumbacks loaded into the 412. I...

Re: Liverpool speakers?

Thanks for the advice, gents. I have one of those cheap Marshall 8412 closed-back cabinets lying around that I haven't used in years. I have purchased some new speakers for it online, but they haven't arrived yet. I got a pair of 65-watt Scumback M55s, which are supposed to sound a little darker tha...

Re: Liverpool speakers?

The Scumnicos sound cool, but they're a totally different animal than the Blues. To my ears, Blues sound sweet and creamy, while the Scumnicos are more aggressive, with sort of a "honk" to them. Very close to EC on the Bluesbreakers album. How do the Scumnico speakers compare to Celestion Blues? I h...

Liverpool speakers?

Hello all, I have a Ceriatone Liverpool loaded with Toneslut trannies that Allyn tweaked for me awhile back. It sounds pretty good to me, but it's quite bright. So much so, that I keep the Treble and Presence set on Zero. I'm currently playing it through an open back 212 loaded with a G12H30 and a G...

Re: Just got banned from the Dr. Z forum...

I was honestly poking fun at the whole situation by bringing this up here. I actually have a life outside of computer forums, so I really don't take it that seriously. But I'm telling the 100% truth about the whole Z-Wreck deal. I really wasn't just trying to aggravate anyone. But Zaite was absolute...

Re: Just got banned from the Dr. Z forum...

Wes, Zaite is raffling off the first one on the Z Forum as we speak. Supposedly, the proceeds will go to charity. Although Zaite hasn't named a charity yet. :-p The Z-Wreck isn't shown on the Z website. Are we sure that Mike intends to sell them? Is it sort of a custom run, or a commercial product? ...

Re: Just got banned from the Dr. Z forum...

I've only played one early Ghia, but it sure looked like the Hammond to me. The only schematics I've seen are for the late model Ghia. I'm banned now, so I don't have access to the forum, and I'm not going to waste anymore time on Zaite. My point was that Zaite hates everybody on the Amp Garage and ...

Re: Just got banned from the Dr. Z forum...

I'm not saying the current Ghias are exactly the same. I'm saying the very early ones that he built his reputation on are Hammonds. Google it. There are tons of pictures floating around of them. The very early Carmen Ghias were literally even still on the Hammond chassis, and screwed into a tiny hea...

Re: Just got banned from the Dr. Z forum...

The very early Carmen Ghias were literally even still on the Hammond chassis, and screwed into a tiny head cabinet with a Z on it. You're quite right though. It wasn't just a lift of the Hammond circuit. It was literally the Hammond circuit and hardware, still on the Hammond chassis. I'd equate that...

Re: Just got banned from the Dr. Z forum...

Whatever. I really don't care. At this point, I just think it's funny. Guitar playing is a hobby of mine, and not a source of stress. I just think it's funny how some of Z's zealots think that only a Z amp sounds good, and every other amp sucks. They think Zaite's their buddy, just because he throws...

Re: Just got banned from the Dr. Z forum...

Well, Dr. Z is going to start selling the Z-Wreck. I just expressed my surprise because I no-kidding asked him to build me one after I found out that Brad Paisley had started playing one. Zaite said he couldn't build just one of them because it would be too expensive. So I said, if you don't want to...
