I was asked to do Marshall 4x12" bookshelves. But... real ones cost less than I can sell them for these days. Add in truck freight to Florida and it's a misser.

Re: New Twin UL build. Tube types. OT specs.
I can't imagine why anyone would want to clone an ultralinear Twin. Real ones are cheap right now, say $400 for a beat up one in a private sale. $300 on the low end on eBay. You can't buy the parts for that.

Re: Assure me that cheap 412's will happen again
You have to keep your ear to the ground. JCM800 cabs are everywhere, so are cheap MG cabinets. I'm not worried about high dollar cabs loaded with original speakers although they do turn up. I'm just snapping a few up because they're more hassle to build than they are to buy. I always wanted one load...

Re: tube sockets
NOS Cinch for me when I can get 'em. I attended an antique radio show a while back, a vendor had a whole bin full of WWII surplus octals @ $3.00 each in the mil-spec cosmoline "mummy wrap". They're more like $10.00 each at AES.
Beltons use a metric knockout that's larger than the 1 1/8" for NOS.

Re: ?? >> Matching Speaker Dynamics to Amp & Cab &
I just picked up a stock ’68 Bassman 50w head that I’ll use for guitar. My goal is to use this rig for crisp cleans… mostly bedroom volume. It certainly will be clean at bedroom volumes. If you're not cranking it just about anything will work for speakers. Two 25 watters? No problem! For reference ...

Re: How many people are building amps right now?
...Meanwhile, the Twin just sits there. They are good amps to rent and I used to rent this one out some, but the music scene has dropped off a lot around here and I am not as connected as I used to be when I did sound and gigged more. Seems like you can hardly give Twins away lately. Personally, I ...

Re: How many people are building amps right now?
Meanwhile I have been eyeing my already hacked up '72 Twin for a Dumble conversion. I'd pick up an AB763 circuit board set and put that Twin back to Twin specs. I'm thinking of keeping a couple rental amps on hand, a Twin is always good to have. A Brown Note D'Lite gets you in the Dumble zone. Tell...

Re: How many people are building amps right now?
I'm thinking along the lines fo building a couple 5E3s, that way maybe I'll get to keep one. I have a bunch of those light green Cornell-Dubilier caps, mostly .1s but I have one solitary .022.. That says Tweed Deluxe to me. If I had more .022s I'd build a tweed Pro or Super. Vintage .022s, that is.....

How many people are building amps right now?
Anyone? Who is building right now? What do you have in progress? Here's what I'm working on now: I can't seem to keep a tweed Deluxe around so it's time to build another one. The parts keep stacking up, it's just time... I'm going to build something simple for the snoozy DIY thread over at the TDPRI...

Re: dumble speaker cabinet
The tone 'is' the pine cabinet. From my 40+ years of playing experience, it is harder to get the warm lows out of hardboard and hardwood cabinets. The lows go thru a pine cab. It vibrates like crazy, and this produces a wider, warmer sound. And there you have it. One camp says, "Build it as dead as...

Re: project 6l6
The simplest amp you can build with a pair of 6L6s might be a Prolux. That's a tweed Deluxe built with 6L6 tubes instead of 6V6s. The 250 ohm bias resistor is correct for 6L6s so you don't have to fuss with fixed bias. Many repro Deluxe PTs will run 6L6s without breaking a sweat. You'd probably want...

Re: dumble speaker cabinet
Comments from Dumble notwithstanding, I believe we've effectively eliminated most cabinet materials Attributed to Dumble: "Yeah, I like using real wood. You can’t get me to look at a piece of particle board, I hate particle wood. I hate other kinds of woods... birches is been ran down my throat, but...

Re: dumble speaker cabinet
I really think that stuff is an AWFUL choice for cabinet building. If weight is an issue Poplar or basswood (another BAD choice) ply is much lighter than birch, Poplar is also brighter sounding. I don't know if there's any such thing as a "bad" choice. It's a matter of taking inventory of the asset...
