So I want to make a 5E3....where should I get a kit?
Hey Everyone! So I've gotten bitten by the bug again, I love my express build and it rocks. But...I want another color on my palette and something shall we say..quieter? I think the 5E3 is for me, so I've found the Weber kits, which look pretty great (but are they?). I was thinking of subbing in bet...

Re: Ceriatone Expression
My Ceriatone could give a 100 watt plexi a run for its money. For being less than half the wattage (or maybe just half), that is pretty damn loud. I don't believe this. a healty 100w will burry your wreck. the express has much less than 50w clean headroom whereas a marshall often has 120w. the expr...

Re: Ceriatone Expression
FWIW back the end of last year Nik had some other guy doing the TW clones......
So it's been that way all along I believe. Maybe there was a new guy.

Re: Ceriatone Expression
I have a Nik built express which i've thrown NOS preamp tubes and a Tone Slut OT into. Made it less like a hot rodded marshal and more trainwreck. Certainly makes sense. The circuit is the circuit, and Nik's choice of caps wouldn't make such a big difference as to change the tone that dramatically....

Re: Volume techniques
With my express clone On my Les Paul I have it wired out of phase IE Peter Green and I have some WCR paf clones. I can get clean from both pickups, but I usually run the volumes at 3-5 and the tones at 7. While the volumes are equal it gets a thiner single coil sound with a clean sheen. I can roll t...

Re: Key to the "touch sensitivity" of TWs - 1st gain s
I also think another part of this is the power supply and output stage. There is a fair amount of sag to these, almost like a rectifier tube feel about the amp. It makes the amp compress downward when pushed, but spring back with fairly dynamic clean tones when you back off. Glen, That's an interes...

Re: Express preamp for bass guitar?
I'll try to field this. From my limited knowledge on the express the power amp is biased a little cold so it saturates early because the preamp has a lot of gain. The preamp has a lot of distortion too. If you paired the preamp with a bass amp power section you may get something pretty cool. You'll ...

Re: Best 12" speaker for a Trainwreck combo
:) Is this Weber Alnico Bell smilar to Celestion Blue or Gold? Because I live in Finland, Weber is not very common here. They are also very expensive because only one company brings them here. I get all models of Celestion and Eminence speakers easily with reasonable costs. I know how Express works...

Re: Best 12" speaker for a Trainwreck combo
I believe Ken designed the TW amps around 4X12 with 25 watt greenbacks. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. No you're right. But you can use these amps with many different speakers. I use a 2x12 oval back combo. A Weber Blue Dog, and a Weber Silver Bell. Both 16ohms 30watt. Great blues jam/rock sound....

Re: Komet Pics
hogy said on the gearpage that the voltage is 480v. I've even heard reports of somewhat higher voltages. my heyboer trannies give my amp a 485 b+ voltage. although the express may be a better lead amp, the komet is a more versatile amp because it has much better bass and more clean headroom. it sou...

Re: Drilling chassis bolt holes in the cabinet
Unfortunately, in my eagerness to have a playable amp I have already assembled and rounded the edges of the cab... When you say "mock up the chassis" are you making a template?? Casey was using the chasis as the template. But make a cardboard template that fits the bottom of the chassis then...

RockinLocken, Unfortunately the cabinet is a Milspec water proof container. It's molded plastic. http://www.technomad.com/ There is a small guy out in Western MA who works with these guys and does the installs and custom work. Art Steele. http://www.artsteele.com/ . Unfortunately Art has not updated...
