Re: Express-Best single 12" speaker
You might want to take a listen to the Weber 75 watt ceramic Silver Bell, as well. This is a good match, IMO. I have a Weber Alnico Silver Bell 100W. Probably this weekend I'm gonna play an Express clone through it. I'll let you know. Please update us! I need two more 12" speakers for my Express' 4...

Re: Are these EL34s RFT
yes, sure look like RFT to me. Sometimes a clear picture of the base helps too, but usually a dimple means DDR tubes, or S*emens to the uninitiated. Here is a thing that not many people know: back in the Cold War days, the replacement tubes for some of the NATO firing control systems actually came ...

Re: Electric Guitar Strings
Wow, I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Snake Oil Brand strings. I really like them, they stand up to my abuse and sound very consistent. Well the problem with SOB strings is it seems to be hit or miss if you will get the strings. If you follow the saga at The Gear Page, seems like some guys get thei...

That's one of the few amps I was salivating for it's release. I just can't justify $4k or whatever they are asking for it. Doubly so now after looking inside it.

Re: Express-Best single 12" speaker
Scumback high power version of the M75. I have a couple 65 watters, though I think they also make a 100 watt. That said, the 65 watter seems to handle an Express fine but Jim at Scumback might know more how folks are fairing with them. A Bogner cube is the best actual cab I've tried, and it blows a...

Re: Gravity Picks
I like really thin, but very stiff picks. Those Gravity Picks in .75 look like they fit the bill!
Thanks for pointing those out!

I think that basket weave would look nice on the walnut.
Plus, you can always stain a natural basket weave to just about any color you want.

Re: Good PT for 5E3 type build with 5881?
I agree with Tubeswell. Look at a Hammond 270FX or 270HX power trannie. I use a 270FX with a cathode biased amp using 5881's. With respect, 10thtx I think I might have one of those in storage I'd let go inexpensively. I don't have as much time or money to build the amps I bought transformers for. I...

Re: Build Complete Marshall 18W Head
Hmm, sounds interesting!
I have an 18 watt I got second hand (not very well built) and has issues. So I'm interested in seeing what you do since I'm considering rebuilding mine from the chassis up.

Great looking head cab!
I love the wide spaced dovetails!
I've got a plan to do some unusual jointery work once I get back to cabinet making. I hope my work looks as good as yours!
