Re: Outstanding tube sockets?
Funny you mention that...part of what made me think to ask about tube sockets was that I'm just finishing up a SF Super Reverb basket case. I've got a chassis, transformers, cabinet, and speakers from different sources, and I'm putting it all together. I had an intermittent popping so I thought I'd ...

IIRC Ken Fischer used these for some of his TW's.. Amphenol also makes great old micalex sockets but those are ...

Re: Outstanding tube sockets?
I with diagrammatiks, don't cheap out on the sockets. Whenever I can find them I use the old brown phenolic Cinch style sockets. I've never had one fail and if you are patient they can be had for a very fair price. For new manufacture I just go with Belden - they are solidly built and have a great ...

We wouldn't want to damage the even order harmonics through the crystal lattice now, would we?The New Steve H wrote:Just make sure that whatever you get, you wave your Shakti stones over them three times before you use them.

Re: Outstanding tube sockets?
I suppose the Teflon sockets are the creme dela creme of sockets but like David said, most guitar amp guys like the Beltons. There are a few places like AES that sell the older NOS styles. I have also used ceramic sockets which are supposed to resist arcing better but have also read that ceramics c...

Outstanding tube sockets?
I'm about to start building my X10 clone, and I'm looking for some truly outstanding tube sockets for it. I've seen and heard about some CNC machined Teflon sockets that are supposed to be great...but I wanted to see what you all thought and if anyone had used them. At $10 a pop, they are kinda expe...

Re: Cabinet Building quesiton
We should have a cab building section, IMHO.
It would be great to get tips from the pros, just as we do on the building of the amps themselves.

Wow that head cab is going to look awesome!
I'd consider true oil if you want an easy finish to apply. It will take many coats though.
I'm no finish expert though. I usually go wipe on polys or oils due to how easy they are. I also don't mind a bit of the woods texture to come through the finish.

Re: Crackly Fender Deluxe Reverb Amp
Yeah, check the easy stuff first.
Swap cable, twist knobs, jiggle ports, tap tubes, replace tubes, test on another speaker cabinet.
If all that fails, then you start to look at failing parts, corroded or loose sockets, cracked solder joints, broken/loose wires, etc.

Re: $800 ac cable
Why does my system sound better at night Most audiophiles have noticed this phenomenon. There are many conjectures. (1) The power line feed is more pure-there’s less machinery and fewer motors to corrupt the power lines. Remember, your sound comes from modulated AC power. This is a great argument i...
