Frugal Amps / lead dress

I came across this a few days ago: http://www.frugalamps.com/dumble.html and noted that Mr. Frugal likes to cross certain wires at right angles. My vague and distant Fields and Waves memory from my electrical engineering studies "way back when" says that this makes sense (less coupling between the w...

Re: Alexander Dumble on YouTube?

I bought a Henry Kaiser DVD a while ago, because it has some footage of "Don't Call Me Howard" playing a few riffs and talking a bit about his amps (which, as an electrical engineer, I found to be total BS but maybe I'm not worthy). Pretty interesting, but not worth the cost of the disc 8^) . Edit: ...

Re: NEW CHASSIS RUN!!

I missed the auction due to Short Attention Span Syndrome (aka I didn't read the forum for a week), but I'm interested in all of the bits - chassis, trannies, etc. Count Me In.

Re: NEW CHASSIS RUN!!

I am apparently very late in joining this game, but if there are any extra pieces left over, I'm in for all of the bits - chassis, "pre-done" PCBs, and cab... AND the PT if possible 8^) . BTW I am a total noooob in building an amp, but hopefully as an electrical engineer I will eventually figure out...

Re: Model guide

I admire anyone who is willing to dive into building an Umble with no previous amp-building experience. I am an electrical engineer, at least based on my degree, and I have soldered my way through several kits and projects over the last 30 or so years. However, I am still planning on starting with a...

Re: Should I use this as a donor?

The 165 was my first "high end" amp - bought one new in about 1980 for $800 or so as a I recall. I liked it but it was LOUD and a little hard to tame, at least in the band I was in. It was Acoustic's answer to the Boogie amps (which is what I really wanted, but I couldn't afford one) - although I gu...

Hi all, Fascinating forums here at the Garage - very enjoyable reading. By way of introduction, I am a lefty player living in San Jose, CA, USA.
