Re: lowering the plate volts ?
I'd use Aiken's low watt zener and FET soloution here.

Re: AC-30C2 -- question about the output transformer
Wish I could help you jaysg, but I have yet to encounter a C2. My guess is that it probably doesn't match the original Woden/Haddon/Albion/Parmeko etc... footprint. I do very much appreciate you sharing the schematics. Thank you! Interesting. No tube rect., no choke, DC heaters, non-traditional Bass...

Re: Vox AC30/4 EF86 & Normal Preamp Channels- Bias Issue
You're welcome.
No affiliation w/ Masco amps, it's just a nickname my friends call me from my last name Romasco. I have my own JMJ amplifiers.
I hope you didn't kill any of your EL84's.

Re: Vox AC30/4 EF86 & Normal Preamp Channels- Bias Issue
Even though it didn't make a change, to me it looks like your 62R/68R cathode switch is wired incorrectly. Maybe I can't read your drawing???
Make sure your 220k's on the EL84 input grids are grounded well.

Re: West Grande mod
It looks very similar to the Grande, but 4x 6550 -200W monster. Very simple layout to trace, I can practically see the schematic when I look at it. Thanks.

Been using this Hakko FR-300 for my cap replacement: http://www.hakkousa.com/detail.asp?CID= ... 247&Page=1
Less than $300, well worth it.

Re: West Grande mod
I have a West Filmore. Don't dig the power/stby switching either, nor the output Z switch. Mine still needs to be sorted out, it appears that it had bias failure by looks of the burn marks. What a beast, by far the heaviest amp I own.

Re: Simple AC15?
Never actually weighed it, but it's a lot lighter than an AC-30 combo.

Re: Replacing a tube oscillator with a FET.
Thank you Masco! That approach includes a speed control function that I didn't see on the RG Keene circuit. I suspect that one could be easily added to the Keene circuit with a pot on the oscillator gate. Thanks again to you both for providing some direction! Cheers, Dave O. R.G.'s does have speed ...

Here's the AC-30CC style trem circuit w/ single FET. Not sure if you want to reconfig to output style trem???

Re: Simple AC15?
True "Top Boost" sound would be an AC-30. Why limit the amount of headroom w/ 15W? And at not such a significant difference in cost. I've made lighter AC-30's w/ a single 12 or 2x10 celestion golds in pine cab.
Just my 2 cents...

Interesting screen supply derived from secondary CT. Never seen this before.gingertube wrote:Electronics Australia published a 40W (Playmaster 116) and 60W (Playmaster 117) using 6DQ6A which are on Roly 's website here:

Re: JJ's ECC803 reliability?
Whoever told someone somewhere that these tubes were acceptable for use in an amp is either new, on drugs, or the manufacturer. Horrible. Every tube is useless. Beginning to think that. Been using the short plates for quite a while now and thought I'd try the long for grins. Every time I plugged on...
