Re: Express with Variable Voltage Regulator

RE: under PS board placement.. good point & the extra knob kinda blows the stealth thing anyway :-) I was just looking for more mounting options and a more TW "look", goofy huh? I made a couple of extra boards so I can just swap 'em out if a component goes.... I'll definitely get some of the new cat...

Re: Express with Variable Voltage Regulator

Dana, so I didn't need to do this? A smaller footprint VVR, just what the doctor ordered! This is all that's required for an Express, no? Will you be doing TW specific boards? FWIW this will fit under the power supply board if one wanted a "stealth" installation. These are going in my TW trio.... VV...

Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express

I've tried a 100K resistor in the 3rd gain stage and it sounds great, a little muddy with my Les Paul, but absolutely the balls with Tele & fat Strat. I did a plug-in thing on the board and will be playing around with different values. I used a 64 pin DIP socket strip to make the resistor modules an...

Re: SS Pots (proper grounding) Is this mic on??

search "Pot grounding buss lugs" in the TW discussion, I'd give the link but don't know how... The subject is covered pretty well. I bought some of the BNC lugs discussed for an upcoming build & they look like they'll work quite well. You CAN solder to them as well, I did in my first LP kit build, b...

Re: 2nd TW-Inspired build finished - Wow!!! + final shots

I pre-twist wires as Ralph described but use an electric screwdriver on slow speed with a drill chuck stuck in it. I just clamp one end of both wires in a vise, confirm that they're both the same length and stick the other ends in the chuck. Long lengths of wire will wind tighter close to the chuck ...

Re: 2nd TW-Inspired build finished - Wow!!! + final shots

I seem to remember an Express build a while back with incredibly neat elevated wiring almost geometrically laid out, does anyone remember that thread and perhaps have a link?

Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express

I just got the 200 ohm trim pot for the virtual center tap and the .15R resistors to drop the filament voltage. Both worked great, the filaments are now running at 6.4 volts and the trim pot actually had a distinct effect on hum as it was turned through it's travel. The amp is pretty darn quiet now....

Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express

Call me a girl.... but now I want a little red cab for my Lil' Devil... I think... That is cool, but no Lil' Devil character  or even a pitchfork? How about an inverted pentagram for the metal dudes, that'd be brutal! You're going to have to do another run of boards pretty soon Dana, I know...

Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express

No guaranty that this is perfect, measure your parts & confirm that the hole diameters match your components. Some holes may need file work to get the board to slide in. I've moved the board forward from my installation so spacers behind the pots should not be required. Dana suggested not soldering ...

Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express

Thanks Dana, this is a really cool amp. I love it. Played it for a couple of hours last night, it's a mean little mutha! The odd thing, at least to me, is that the remaining hum is worse between 1/2 & 3/4-7/8 volume, cranked it drops. It's actually acceptable, but as I said not quite as quiet as my ...

Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express

Well, it's done.... kinda... Very, very neat. And it'll surprise you with it's volume. Parts came in fits & starts & that held up the project. Most amount of effort... cutting out the chassis, aside from that you could build this amp in a long afternoon. I came up with a quick way to get the tubes i...

Re: 4-4-0 [2 NEW BUILDS WITH PICS; THE 2 WATT WRECK]

Brian, I just swapped out the Heyboer for a 125C to see if I could drop the volume a bit. It seemed to work & now I'm trying to find a combination of tubes that really shine. I also ditched the shielded wire to the volume pot and did the virtual CT as per Steve (sst4270). I LOVE the amp though, it's...

Re: 2w Sub Miniature Express

...progress, cutting out the chassis is taking about 20X everything else! :( ...not a round hole on the front panel any more, rat-tail work for sure. I've "adjusted" all the openings a bit more since these were taken and it's close enough to get the soldering iron out again. Still need to make space...
