Re: Need help finding replacement choke for AC30cc series
Just for the record, the Hammond choke worked very well, the amp is up and running, and it sounds amazing. Anybody who is thinking about modding out one of these AC30cc series should not hesitate. I did the Lyle Calwdell mods and it worked out great. I am impressed with the quality of the build. Ver...

Re: Need help finding replacement choke for AC30cc series
Thanks everyone. I checked the fuses, and all were intact and correct. It's like the choke acted like a fuse. I have a Hammond choke that fits the specs fairly well. We shall see if that's it. BTW, the rest of the boards look unscathed, as I checked around very closely. Nothing burnt or scorched. Th...

Need help finding replacement choke for AC30cc series
I just obtained a non-working AC30cc1 (for pretty cheap). I have determined that the choke has failed. What's interesting is that it failed without blowing any of the several protective fuses. I think the GZ-34 rectifier took it out, as it was clearly toast. SInce I don't know the history on it, it'...

Re: Bit of current Eric Clapton/Dumble inside info
Just thought I'd point out that my '66 Bandmaster has the holes already cut for 2 additional power tubes. So a "100 watt Bandmaster" is completely possible with transformer upgrades. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/bQnSwoVEa6oXytXEAf2x7-70fK2i_El57CJcd7I-asJog3A-rSYk55mZhPs55XiaZvwCr5OUJ4L00SpimdU...

Re: Paul Rivera Fender Concert-II compared to Dumble? YES? NO?
As is evidenced by this thread, our friend Toppscore is well known to a few other forums as a hype master of the first order. He latches on to an otherwise interesting vintage amp that he has just "scored" and then proceeds to build a case to eventually eBay it for an astronomical price. Oh y...

Looks fantastic. I'm curious how you think it sounds in comparison to the DRRI original circuitry.

Re: Any Reason To Avoid Brass For Bus Bar?
In my Bassman build I used some very heavy guage copper flashing I had on hand. Seemed to work very well. You can see the copper color where the typical Fender brass plate would go.

Re: Magnetic Components Transformers any good?
You will never convince me that (the company whose initials sound like candy) 1) obtained an example of every one of those amps that they claim to have cloned, even specific trannys for each model - even though many used the same transformer, 2) that they dismantled every one of those trannys to stu...

Re: New 5f6a build, need help with voltages
Been tweaking it a bit. The main thing I changed was the bass cap, from a .02 to a .045. I had a nice Blue Molded in that value, too. it brought up the bass just enough for the lower volume levels. I would back it off, I'm sure, if and when I crank it. Mars, that Hammond power tranny is one impressi...

Re: New 5f6a build, need help with voltages
Update: Everything was good. No major issues. Forgot to connect the presence circuit jumper wire to the speaker out (Doh!) but that was a quick fix. Great sounding amp.

Re: New 5f6a build, need help with voltages
Thanks Bob. The bias is reading -48v for now. Any better number to set it before putting the power tubes in?

New 5f6a build, need help with voltages
Hey guys, I just finished a Tweed Bassman build and just started diagnostics before loading all tubes in. I have the rectifier in, but no other tubes. Heaters look good, bias voltage good, and the power tube sockets on pin 3 look good at about 480v. What I am confused by is how high the voltages are...

Re: 5F6-A builders
I found these CORNELL DUBILIER film and foil caps at Newark Electronics. http://www.newark.com/cornell-dubilier/wmf6s22k-f/film-capacitor/dp/66K5045?Ntt=66K5045 CD makes the Mallory 150s, so I'm thinking these real polyester film and foil caps with be closer to the old Astrons. I'm going to use thes...

Re: 5F6-A builders
Mark,
Can't you look at the photo you posted earlier in this thread?
They are yellow and look like "fat" versions of 150's.
Thanks,
Mitch
