Re: my express squels like a pig!
Have you tried various tubes in the V1 position? I had to go through a couple of them to get rid of nasty feedback.

Re: Chassis lettering
If you have a color laser printer you could try printing the white text mirror-inverted onto a highly glossy paper (sticker paper works best) and then iron it onto the chassis with a hot iron. This technique works well on plain aluminum. It might work on powder coating, too.

Moving to a 1.6A slow blow fuse solved the problem. Thanks guys!

BC Components 2222368 series caps
Has anybody by chance used BC Components 2222368 series caps in their builds? They're the only polyester orange drops I have easy access to and I'm wondering if they're worth a try.
Thanks!
Tobias
Thanks!

Re: Express blows fuse when powering it on
Do you have a slow blow fuse in there? Is the fuse rated correctly? Pics I use a 1A (230V!) slow blow fuse. Same as with any other amp I've built so far. Will post pics as soon as I have the opportunity to take some. The voltages all look coherent. B+ is a bit high at 410V but the voltage drops as ...

Re: Express blows fuse when powering it on
Good gut shot pictures would help. Voltage chart as well. Is this a brand new build? firing up for the first time? Or has this amp been working fine and now all of a sudden it's blowing the fuse? It's a brand new build and it has behaved that way from the start. Unfortunately the amp and I are in d...

Express blows fuse when powering it on
My latest Express build behaves a little weird when turning it on: With bulb limiter (60W bulb) it powers up fine (Power OFF, Standby OFF -> Power ON, Standby OFF -> Power ON, Standby ON). When plugged into the wall socket directly after this procedure the power up process above works fine, too, and...

None. You simply won't need it. The Express covers the entire range from sparkling clean to dirty overdrive with a turn of your guitar's volume pot.

http://www.duncanamps.com/tsc/ will show you the difference. Just throw in the 1M and 250K value and compare the frequency curves.

You can also use this technique to label your amp:

Re: Sourcing Transformers for Express Clone
Is Ingo successfully delivering again though? I will see, so far I haven't had any issue, got my stuff in time and as he's doing the Irons now as a hobby I recognized that it will take time before I get my stuff. However, I also know what had been through in the past.. nothing you would want to see...

Re: Stancor - Pacific - Heyboer - Marstran - MM - Edcor - Ceria
I'd be interested in hearing stories of ppl who often stray from the "norm" When I built my Express clone ( http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5054 ) I didn't know there was a "norm" so I took transformers that were available to me: a toroidal PT and the Hammond Fender Deluxe OT. I was buil...

Re: TW Express...just another clone!
If you don't want to build the filter cap stack you could get radial JJ caps (40+20+20+20 and 50+50) but I second James in that F+T caps would work very well. I've used both in Express builds. Antique Electronic Supply (http://www.tubesandmore.com/) carries 6PS caps. I can recommend Wima MKS4 caps, ...

Re: Yet another Cap question.
Anders, you can use the Mallorys or Wima MKS4s if you buy from Banzai. I built my Express clone using the MKS4s and it sounds killer. Tubetown, another German store (http://www.tube-town.net/ttstore/), also has Roederstein MKT 1813s, which are pretty good sounding. They're rated at 400VDC though, so...
