Basler trannies

just having a clear-out - these came from an old ['79 I think] 100w peavey triumph - they sound great for dumble type amps - £150 for both I cant imagine it being worthwhile for anyone outside the UK buying these for the weight [ 4.2 and 3.8 kg] but if you pay the postage I can package them up IMG_5...

Re: transformer w/voltage doubler

thanks all - I didnt realise a full wave bridge increased it by that much

transformer w/voltage doubler

hi all - need some advice on the following transformer thanks - it's meant to be for a dumbleator 2 can I tie-off the centre tap then use the conventional voltage doubler dumbleator power supply ? I understand i'll probably have to fiddle with the dropping string values - it's just the doubler aspec...

Re: peavey transformers

ah right so does that mean I have to have the same rectification circuit after the diodes before I connect it to pin 7 of first 6L6 then from pin 2 of same valve to the next 6L6's pin 7 and so on until I get to the 12ax7's ? and I have to use the three 100uf 50v capacitors just for the serially-conn...

peavey transformers

hi all - I've just got a bargain peavey valve king 100 so going to use it as donor amp for next bluesmaster type build - I've measured the unloaded mains transformer and it has HT - 350V , next tap that peavey are using for rectified heaters and other stuff is 27V , and bias is 80V - I think the bia...

pot conundrum

hi all - just a question for everyone about pots for those who understand them better than I do..... I'm using a volume pedal as a master volume for the clean and OD channels in passive fx loop of amp but the sound very slightly changes once you use 20 feet worth of cable and a volume pedal - I've t...

Re: 120w mains transformer with 4 x EL34's

that's really helpful thanks , I've just re-measured HT and 5.1v in and 7.62v out so mains supply is 230v divided by 5.1 = 45.09 , then multiply that number by 7.62 = 343.5v on HT - I think that's right, so COMPLETELY different from my original measurement !

Re: 120w mains transformer with 4 x EL34's

thanks for answers - so if I understand correctly it'll be ok if I use a screen voltage reducer ?
also , what's easiest method for identifying ground on OT secondary outputs ?

Re: 120w mains transformer with 4 x EL34's

Sorry for delay - I didnt have a low voltage AC source so ended up using a 5V tap from another amp , so here are my measurements for unloaded trannies…. Bias 33v HT 354v Heaters 6.7v OT - 5.1V applied and 51v/102v/152v measured between secondaries , so that would make the winding ratio 100/400/888 r...

Re: 120w mains transformer with 4 x EL34's

thanks for advice - is there any alternative way of reducing filament voltage ? - the chassis they're going in doesnt have room for more sockets

120w mains transformer with 4 x EL34's

hi all I have a set of partridge trannies pulled from an old 70's looking spare/repairs find that both work fine , the amp they came from had 6 EL34's so I'm assuming it was 120W - I remember I had to add a voltage doubler to the bias tap when I was using them in 4 x el34 amp , but I just wanted to ...

express transformer question

hi all , I've just made an express with an AC30 mains transformer and a tubetown express output transformer - sounds fantastic but not for me , I'd like to try a 2 x 6L6 blackface type circuit next , but is it worth converting what I already have or just keeping the express as an express and startin...

ac30 OT with 2xEL34 or 6L6 ?

Hi all - I have most of the components for new ac30 type amp , but the chassis only has space for 2 octal power valves - so no 4x EL84,s - if the OT is 4K will that work with el34's or 6L6's without changing anything [apart the sound] ?
