Re: Reccommendation for mini toggle switches?

Never had any trouble with Mountains from Mouser with new builds, but they can get a little soft if you do any rework. It'd be nice to find a source for Teflon-bodied mini-switches...

Re: HRM clean stack sub

I converted a high-plate skyliner to a no-clean-side HRM a couple months ago. Briefly considered building a clean tonestack with trimmers so that when I bypassed it with the PAB, all the little details would be right. That seemed overly complicated. Instead of looking at the clean tonestack/PAB as a...

Re: Distilled Dumble

I never play with the OD off, so I did the same thing. Mine's an HRM with OD always on. Eliminated the clean tone stack and put the HRM controls on the front. No deep, mid or PAB, no relays, and (obviously), no clean master, so it simplifies the layout a bit. It's become my favorite amp!

Re: HRM VS Non HRM

Might be interesting to put a sine wave on the input and start measuring AC signal voltages at various points between the input jack and the output of the PI. If you do that to both amps, it should be possible to pinpoint where the extra volume in the HRM amp is coming from.

Re: #183 ways to get more gain?

I honestly have been considering trying to lower the gain in the OD of my 183 copy. to each his own. I hear you. I usually have V1 and gain at 9- 10 O clock. Maybe something else is not quite right and the amp is lower in gain than it should be?? Mullard preamp tubes are VERY gainy in Dumbles, I us...

Re: Long Plate verses Short Plate

I don't have any RCAs, but a GE (short) in V1, Amperex in V2 and a Telefunken with long, ribbed plates in the PI is as good a combination as I've tried so far. But I've never been able to talk myself into paying for a good (Mullard or Bugle Boy) long plate, so I really don't know anything about thos...

Re: Fuchs ODS too spiky on the treble side

I kinda wondered if something may be wrong with the OP's amp. I've only played one Fuchs, but my ODS 30 is at the other end of the scale from ice-picky.

Re: Scoping a Dumble

I bought a cheap old scope several years ago. Don't know how to use it very well for troubleshooting, but it's interesting to look at waveforms. The signal probe, on the other hand, is for sure the most useful troubleshooting tool I've come across.

That's a good clip -- nice gnarly edge to the tone. Great playing, too! 8)

Re: Where are all the new build threads?

Do those "goofy resistors" add some nice mojo? Dunno about mojo, or tone, but I will say that they definitely add color (the visual kind) and expense. You should post some info about that build and what values of NOS parts you used, it looks great! Taylor, your new low-plate build looks awes...
