Talked to Robben Ford on Saturday!

It was a very brief conversation, but still :) I asked him about his Dumble, and he didn't get too technical, but told me about the tweaking With Mr Dumble, and that he had an amazing ear for doing the right mods. He also said that he used Celestion 65 in his cab, but that was probably no secret? He...

Resistor on output jack

I blew an OT once, because someone didn't connect a speaker before they switched the head on. Would it work to connect a 50W / 8Ohm resistor on the output jack, if I use a jack that openes when the jack is inserted, and closes when it's pulled out (so that the resistor connects to ground when the sp...

soldering question

Do you guys use solder with a resin/acid core, or just straight solder with no core?

I read somewhere that acid should not be used with electrical components.

Tom Anderson with V-shaped neck pocket, anyone?

Does anyone of you own a Tom Anderson (tele) with the special neck pocket, that's shaped like a flat bottomed V?

I have a couple of questions about it...

Re: Weller WHS40 soldering station

Thanks!

This is my first variable-temperature iron. What temperature is ideal for "normal" soldering (resistors, caps, tube sockets etc.)? What about soldering wires to a pot-casing, or more heavy gage bus-bar soldering?

Weller WHS40 soldering station

I got this today. Haven't had the chance to try it yet, but I plugged it in briefly, just to see that it works. There is a green LED that lights up... But I'm not sure what it's for... looks like it shuts off when I turn the temperature down a bit, but if I turn it up again, it starts blinking, but ...

Re: Choke for Z-Wreck

Thanks!

I'm going to try different chokes though. It's an easy and pretty cheap way to experiment with tone. I'm wondering how different it will sound....

Choke for Z-Wreck

I have a 125C1A choke, which is 4H, 90mA and 108 Ohm. The 159Q, that many like to use, is 7H, 150mA and 100 ohm, I believe. Do I need 150mA? Or could I try my 90mA choke, withouth destroying it? How many mA go through it in a Z-Wreck amp? I'm going to get a 159Q, but it would be fun to try a differe...

Hi.

I took these pictures of a Lightning, maybe you can see something there?

Where to put the stand by switch

Some designs have the stand by switch on one 5V secondary, between the transformer and the filament, so that the rectifier tube does not glow when the stand by switch is off. Others keep the rectifier glowing, but has the swtich between the filament and the first filter cap/choke. What is the best w...

Do you know if there is a big difference in sound when you toggle between the two primaries?
