Re: Girlfriend's amp
My GF has me building her a 200 watt tube bass amp for her doom/metal band gig. Before I even talked gear with her, she was adamant that she have a tube rig... So I am encouraged to tinker. Or at least finish her amp. Soon. Any day now. Whats taking so long? I thought you said you know what you are ...

Re: Bass amp build
i am curious if you are doing any mods to the circuit. which preamp did you use? Using the '70's four input per Mark's suggestion, but only the normal channel hi and lo inputs to avoid using an extra tube. No mods per se, just deviations to accomodate parts on hand or easily available (ie, the toro...

Re: Bass amp build
I'm in the process of building a 4 x KT88 Hiwatt DR201 inspired bass amp myself. i'd like to hear details about this build Just using the KT88 schematics from Mark Huss' website and adapting what parts I have - a toroid dual secondary 325-0-325-0 PT stacked like the DR201. Hammond choke. A Fender s...

Re: metalic tape instead of bottom plate?
Should be fine, just make sure the chassis makes contact with it all the way around. Thickness makes no difference. If I remember correctly, the signals we are trying to shield out can be blocked by chickenwire mesh...

Re: I think Dave Funk is a smart guy
Hmmm. You act like Dave owes you some secret insight or something. If Dave was trusted by Kenny to keep his mouth shut while he was alive, maybe Dave still thinks he owes it to Kenny to continue to keep a few things to himself. All I know is if I were Dave (well, Dave Funk since I am a Dave), I'd be...

Re: I think Dave Funk is a smart guy
If im not mistaken Dave didn't create or design a trainwreck amp so all i'm saying is this post is in the wrong place. You do realize Dave is the only person KF trusted to build Trainwrecks outside of himself, and is the only person that Ken explicitly discussed the details of building Trainwrecks ...

Re: Hiwatt question...
For the sake of adventure could the HIWATT tonestack be used in place of the Rocket tonestack? Probably, but considering the Rocket was designed as an AC30 "done right", I cant say that I'd personally do it and expect any improvement... If you think about it, Hiwatts are BIG sounding, BIG octal bot...

Re: Pacific transformers Versus Heyboer transformers?
I bought my original transformer from Doug Holt, too, back in July/August 2003. It's a heyboer marked 11415 TW-OT. The interesting thing is that's the same part number Pacific uses, I believe. Also, I measured it and it's a 6.6k although for a long time I had thought Doug Holt sold 5.2k's. Do you k...
