Re: Sozo caps in Ceriatone Expression
I built my Express build using the Sozo's and like it fine - but cant say what sort of difference the proper PS series caps would have made... Generally my go-to caps are Mallory 150's, so these sound some where inbetween a 150 and a vintage mustard is I had to place it.

Re: Short Wait List Note From Ken
I should dig out my letter from Ken and scan it. He wrote me a page and a half/two page handwritten letter the year before he died. Sent me a cd dub of the Novella album as an example of how his amps sounded. Was just an all around nice reply to some questions I had sent him.

Re: Wrecks other than Francesca
Yep the wreck pdf thats at schematic heaven and blue guitar is pre Franchesca best guess and hazy recollections. Of the schematics in that file, the A1a is the closest to correct. Stick with the schematics here in the reference section, either the Franchesca one or the Kelly one. They are the real d...

Re: Bias/recitifier question
For what it's worth, I've also got a '65 n/r Deluxe. Mine was modded by Dave Allen to have a Brown preamp/tone stack (volume/single tone knob) in the normal channel and an improved vibrato on the vibro channel - it has a switch on the intensity knob that removes it from the circuit. Very useable mod...

Re: Need Info: From scratch build for a high headroom clean amp
I used the mid-70's circuit. Cant comment on the earlier one. I think there are other differences with the 103, not to mention KT-88's will need more clearance between the tubes than the Ceriatone chassis allows. I already had a lot of small components around so I didnt think starting with a kit was...

Re: Need Info: From scratch build for a high headroom clean amp
Schematics are here:
http://mhuss.com/Hiwatt/tech2.html
I used the '70's 4 input preamp with only the normal input mated to the 4 KT88 power amp. No parts list or layout, but there's nothing out of the ordinary in the circuit.

Sad indeed. Ted always found time to answer my stupid questions or give advice. His business allowed a hack like me to build and experiment.
RIP Ted.

Re: who repairs transformers?
Pretty sure Heyboer can do it, just remember that they will pretty much have to tear it down and rewind it, so it's gonna coast about the same - if not more - as a new PT.

Re: express coupling caps
I used Sozo's standard caps mostly and a few Mallory 150's in spots I didnt have the correct value. Sounds pretty awesome to my ears. It will peal paint and neuter small animals out to 100 ft.

Hiwatt DR-201 KT88 bass amp finished
Thanks to both Mark Huss and Skyboltone for their advice during the planning and construction on this guy - as a result other than some buzz/noise reduction tweaking, this baby is finished! I believe Mullard never manufactured a 5751, but relabeled RCA's or Tung-Sol's during that era (the Transformer looking shield logo)...

Re: Would the Express V1 benefit from this?
The Matchless pics just show colored locking star washers - you can see they are underneath grounding tabs, so that cant be an insulating material.
