Re: Dumble Special 16

An eccentric right of passage. Built for Montgomery Brewster in 1985 for the princely sum of $500,000.00. Delivered in less than 30 days. The scene ended up on the cutting room floor. The experience, though, ignited an uncontrollable urge in Richard Pryor to spend exorbitant sums on NOS tubes. The t...

Re: DUMBLE Trade Mark

I suspect Dumble trademark piratry will devolve into something like Elvis impersonation or Barbara Streisand drag queens.

Re: When Using 4, 8, or 16 Ohm Taps....??

or if you have 2 speakers in the box, each 8 ohms, and you can connect them in 4 or 16 ohms total resistance. what is going on on taps 4 ohms and what is going on on 16 ohms? what is efficiency=? Inductances add in series and diminish in parallel. I'm sure that R.G. has the math to understand if th...

Re: When Using 4, 8, or 16 Ohm Taps....??

My understanding is that humans are genetically programmed for pattern recognition, even to the point of thinking they perceive them where none exist. Also they apply a smattering of knowledge to complex subjects to try and make some sense of them. Whichever, hence the heap of baseless hypothesisin...

Re: What happens now?

I spoke with Allan Dumble who said pretty much what Andy said. He also conveyed that it was Howard's wish that the business and his designs passed with him.

Re: Silver face iron and dumble

All Fender Twin output transformers from 1964 to 1976 should perform very similarly in Dumble clones. There were differences in the lamination materials used but the core stack height stayed the same. I think it was always a 4/3 interleave winding. Beginning in 1977 Fender eliminated the screen supp...

Re: Fuchs Dumble Clone

Yep. I thought we could have discussion regarding ethics but you wanted to judge instead. Our interests are clearly divergent. I'm not disagreeing with you just not interested in judging. IMHO your comments are off topic.

Re: Fuchs Dumble Clone

Seems like aesthtically accurate Dumble clones are acceptable now. Haters need not reply. I have respect for Andy and if he considers this acceptable then it probably is. Hoping he weighs in with his perspective. I'd like to understand where the leaders in this community think the line-not-to-be-cr...

Re: Pre RoHS Dale RN60 100K on eBay

To clarify, this is not my posting on ebay. I am reposting as a courtesy to this community. RN60 can safely be utilized in plate load duty for a 12AX7 at the voltages we run and hifi guys have had success. These are military and are derated. Common wisdom suggests they are the same as a commercial h...

Pre RoHS Dale RN60 100K on eBay

For those inclined to use these as plate resistors:

There are 23 boxes left as of this posting. 48th week of 2001. I think these are pre RoHS.

Re: Fuchs Dumble Clone

I think we are beginning to surface some relevant concepts: There are some do's and don'ts around building replicas -the more accurate the replica the harder it is to distinguish from an origianal -things like mfr badging on a car or an artist's signature on a painting are ways that the market in ge...

Re: Fuchs Dumble Clone

Thanks, Jelle. This is very helpful information for this discussion. One could build an exact replica and sell it for $6k as a clone (as Andy did) and someone could resell it for $60k as an original (as did the sellers to your clients). And yes, I'm not saying anything bad about Andy. All of my inte...

Re: Fuchs Dumble Clone

Thanks, everyone, for your comments. Martin made some particularly interesting comments. What if we establish where the ethical line is for an amateur one-off build and then build off of that? What I'm hearing him say is that building an exact replica replete with 'by Dumble' screened onto the facep...
