Best sounding cheap 8" and 10" speakers I use are alnico pulls from 50's radios and such.
Check ebay for Zeniths, RCA's etc.

Re: Fargen Blackbird on the bench
Two of my amps virtually identical built back to back. Inspired by seeing a Laney that had parallel filament wiring (AC)...I decided to try it myself. High gain preamp design with three gain stages and cathode follower tone stack. The parallel wired amp is quieter than the twisted! The wires a lying...

Re: I love my dogs
My dog is odd.
Avatar, 60 lb shep mutt.
She likes the noise, one of the rare times we hang out on the porch at the front of the house with her tied to a column.
She thinks she's a "war dog".
She likes firearms as well.

Re: Ceramic tube sockets
I use ceramics just because they are readily available from where I buy most of my parts.
Two issues:
Unused pin sockets rattle if not tightened down.
(Which of course may not be due to ceramic, just overall quality).
And an occasional cracked socket if I mess up.

I'm a minor league guy and permanent newb but you are one of the many I would hate to see leave.
Take a break and check back in whenever.
I've done the same elsewhere, no need for drama.

Re: Amp building book suggestions
Another vote here for Merlin.
I have two (power supplies, and preamps).
Just the preamps book is worth the weight in gold.

My cell imprint is also very small.
I use it as an emergency phone for the most part.
Tracphone, very cheap.

Re: Not to be political
One thing that keeps getting lost in translation though is access to content of information available (calls, emails, etc). Tracking numbers doesn't surprise me nor really alarm me very much. I distinctly recall hearing about this before, at least in the last two years and there was no stink about i...

Hard to get past the B+ issue but wouldn't a 6L6GC be better suited for a 4k primary?martin manning wrote:Since the Classic 30 is a 4x EL84 amp, I'm guessing the OT impedance is ~4k, and the plate voltage is ~300.
