Re: Y

This why it pays to place a 1 ohm 1% 2 to 3 watts resistor in series to ground off of each output tube Cathode. You then place a meter set of D.C volts across it and your reading the current the tube is pulling, be it idle or cranked. You then can make note of how much idle current the tube is at a...

Re: how to know a tube that redplated is bad?

Thought i'd update this. I guess when they redplate they can sound ok then soon go south. Thats what happened, tho it didn't die it just started sounding lousy all of a sudden. I couldn't figure out why the amp didn't sound right almost instantly and then it hit me. I remembered the redplate inciden...

Re: how to know a tube that redplated is bad?

Measuring with 1 ohm cathode resistors and it;s accurate because for months i have been tweaking it with the chassis out and i have checked it many many times and it's always been the same. And line variation doesn't matter because i'm talking 1mA with respect to the other tube. So if line voltage f...

Re: how to know a tube that redplated is bad?

Thanks. I just mentioned the 1mA difference not to suggest it might mean it's bad, but to just show it did change. I have checked the bias many times recently and they're always 1mA apart so now that for the first time there 1 more mA difference it just shows that it DID affect the tube even if it's...

how to know a tube that redplated is bad?

I had one of the 220k bias resistors come loose and i played the amp for a couple minutes before i noticed the hum and looked to see one 6V6 was redplating big time. Turned it off but it was a good 2 if not 3 minutes it was on i think. When i resoldered the resistor i turned it back on and everythin...

Re: 6V6 power tube grid stoppers

So even tho there will be the same length of conductor from the source point to the destination, just having the resistor to the other side makes the difference? So I assume any oscillation will still be present in the wire lead but the resistor stops it before the grid? I'm thinking i may as well g...

6V6 power tube grid stoppers

I have the 5.6k grid stoppers on the turret board with about 3-4" of wire connecting them to the tube pin. How important if at all is it to remove the resistors from the board and put them directly on the tube pin? Is it the same as with the guitar input where you want the resistor right on the tube...

What is it that makes TW'ss so rich sounding and desirable?

I suppose the answer, if there is one, is somewhere in this forum but it would take a year to find it. So i'm asking out of curiosity, what do you think it is that makes them so good to so many. I don't mean what aspect of the tone, but what circuit design aspect do you think is most responsible for...

Re: New Solid State FX loop source - $20

This is what has my interest.... https://www.tube-town.net/ttstore/Kits/Misc-Kits/Kit-Seriel-FX-Loop-LND150::5973.html Considerably more $ partially due to price but also due to overseas shipping if like me you aren't in europe. But if you click the "tech data' tab and download the PDF data sheet an...

Re: New Solid State FX loop source - $20

I saw that but i'd never buy it with some odd small tube that may be hard to find or expensive or both and can't even be swapped w/o a solder job. But the solid state one has the same thing at the bottom of the PDF data sheet that shows it can be wired for parallel. It my be an option but i wonder j...

Re: New Solid State FX loop source - $20

At this point i'm starting to feel there is no transparent series loop if your hearing is sensitive, and mine is. So i;m done with them but i would consider trying a parallel one if someone offered a cheap one like some of these cheaper series loops. None are tho. Not sure why, but no one offers a p...

Re: New Solid State FX loop source - $20

1.Well, the soldono is my baseline for crap tone. :D So something could be quite a bit better and still be lousy. And thats using the proper device too, a +4 level DSP and gain staging all the level controls to find the best tone. 2. i already have a wet/dry rig. It's just a simple second small SS c...

Re: New Solid State FX loop source - $20

yeah, it helps some. My current loop, or should i say the one i just ripped out, is a SLO loop. My amp is pretty much exactly like a SLO from the last stage thru the CF and the PI. But as you said it changes the tone quite a bit. I was interested in the metro b4 i installed the SLO (had an unused tu...

Re: New Solid State FX loop source - $20

Hmmm....it's cheap but still i need to have reason to believe it's transparent, and i would never buy the metro because even tho i have seen lots of good reviews on it's transparency, thats a bit much w/o seeing for myself. $20 on the other hand is worth the chance but only if i have reason to belie...

Gainzilla, can you ask him next time you talk to him what the optimal B+ is for the loop?
