Re: Tweedle Dee build demo video with Strat, Les Paul, and Tele

After making this video I installed the Bandmaster OT and when I really pushed it at an outdoor gig I could tell the PT wanted to sag just the slightest bit so I would guess its somewhere around 150ma on the HT. It's not getting hotter than it did with 6V6 (five seconds of finger tips on the iron a...

Re: Where does tone come from in a guitar?

As has been mentioned, tone is in the fingers. Everyone knows that. Except for the umpteen bazillion wannabees riffing out (badly!) at GuitarCenter. Those guys are convinced that a Holy Grail guitar matched with a Holy Grail amp (not to mention the ubiquitous Holy Grail reverb  ) results in Hol...

Re: Advice/tips on a good 5E3 build

Any devout student of the tweed Deluxe really must look at several similar amps. Circa 1960 DeArmond built a tweed Deluxe rip R15T and a similar amp re- badged and sold by Martin. Yeah, a Martin "tweed Deluxe" built by the Nazareth Pennsylvania people who made legendary "folk" guitars. Same people w...

Re: Tweedle Dee, Take two

Hi guys, This is my second take on this great build. First one sounded absolutely fantastic, so I needed a new one since the first one found a new home. I did many layout for this build in order to balance feature set and size. I ended up with a 12x8x2 Hammond chassis. Mods are as follow: Clearly a...

Re: Are Slick Guitars any good?

Slick guitars are a good value, an economy I reckon is entirely negated by shipping them to Australia. Ash isn't necessarily heavy Wood grows on trees. All trees are not created equal which can be a good thing or a bad thing. I remember when buying a bridge or some pickups from the Mighty Mite catal...

Re: Tweedle Dee, Take two

I love my tweedle Dee head and use it more than any other amp in the studio but I had to reduce the bass significantly with the cap values similar to Fred. M After spending literally 1000 hours staring at TD guts and I'm using "literally" literally... I've come to appreciate Dumble''s little monste...

Re: Tweedle Dee, Take two

I chose to get away from a well paved way and may do mistakes. I hope these will be valuable lessons indeed as we learn from our mistakes (at least I do, or try to). You may or may not like what I am trying to do here and that is fine with me. Thanks for sharing your point of view. It's not about l...

Re: Television and Radio tubes

At a glance I'm seern' some regulators in there... the OD3s.

Mojo has a transformerless circuit (no OT) that uses the 6080s.

Bundle it all up, stick it on eBay for seventy-five bucks without the caddy. $11.00 Priority flat rate shipping.

Re: Bruno designed Voxes- what are they?

One iteration of the recently discontinued AC15... I can't claim to be able to keep track of them all and count on Vox to make a whole bunch of dis similar amps and call them AC15s... Anyway, it was like a really shrill rip of Fender's AB763 circuit. AB763 with EL84s. I only need to listen to it for...

The second worst sounding SE transformer I've used in Champ style builds. A Champ is supposed to "chime". An OT with limited bandwidth eliminates that desirable feature.

Re: Motorcycles and musicians

I ran K81s on the RD-350 and a Triumph 500 Daytona. What I liked about them was the triangular cross section and the way that you "dropped" into a turn. And they were so soft that they stuck like glue in the rain. I really don't know jack about tires for the Road King. You see Metzler's around, som...

Re: Motorcycles and musicians

Dunlop doesn't make 17" K180s... Bahhhh. K81. The ONLY tire for that bike. Do they still make it?  In theory the "correct" tire is an original Made in England K70. Yeah, they still make them in Japan. The Triumph "Daytonas" that won Daytona in '66 and '67 were on shaved K70s. Th...
