Re: Rocket Voltage Problem Fixed - Distortion Problem

And for the record, the distortion doesn't sound bad to my ears. It doesn't sound like a bias problem. It just sounds like the amp volume is near max when it is only set to 9:00. The sweep on the volume control is fine. 0 ohms at min, 250k at noon, 500k at max. When listening to this clip, my amp NE...

Re: Rocket Voltage Problem Fixed - Distortion Problem

Update... I went ahead and added 2 of the 100 ohm 5 watt Dale resistors in a series and placed them between the high voltage supply line from the two 40uf caps and the standby switch. This dropped all of the voltages, and most are really close to perfect with the chart. However, I am still getting A...

Re: Rocket Voltage Problem Fixed - Distortion Problem

And as far as the input jack, I followed Allyn Meyer's Rocket pictures, as seen here.

My input jack appears to function properly, but perhaps I'm mistaken?

Re: Rocket Voltage Problem Fixed - Distortion Problem

Well, I failed to connect R7 to ground(as seen above). Needless to say, that fixed the voltage problems. However, I am now experiencing ALOT of overdrive in the amp. I wouldn't say it's horrible sounding overdrive, but it's not desirable either. I have to run the volume at 8o'clock or less to get a ...

Re: Rocket Voltage Problem Fixed - Distortion Problem

The resistor values seem fine. I do not have a meter that can check capacitance so I suppose it is possible there is a bad cap? I will reflow the solder points and try some tube swapping. Thanks for the help.

Any other ideas are welcome.

Thanks!

It's not the cleanest build, but here are some pics and a voltage chart.... Re: Rocket Voltage Problem Fixed - Distortion Problem

The choke is fine. Your using the 260v tap to get 511v secondary. The B4 and B5 are the ones that are way too high Your voltages are up compared to the compiled list. Are you using 9k1 resistors on the dropping string? The PT uses 5v/3A you could use a 5u4 rectifer tube to reduce the overall voltag...

The PT is a HTS-5199.

My choke is an Edcor with:

Rocket Voltage Problem Fixed - Distortion Problem

This is my second amp build, the first of which was an Express, which went very well. I am getting some over-voltage problems with my Rocket build. Here is the dusty Line6 212 cab with the TW express bolted in. I will add more bracing to support the bottom of the chassis and make cover. Faceplate is on its way.

Re: Siemens EL34s

Hi, I checked out your youTube clip. Nice sound! What kind speaker and cabinet are you using? I thought about buying the Tungsram in the Sale/Trade forum but did not want to spend the big $ at this time. I have found a few gems on ebay along with a few duds. It seems like you have to take your chan...
