Re: My Rocket Clone Vs Brad Paisley's Rocket
NO DB4 amp, supposedly his new collaboration with dr. Z... Actually he uses two DB4's, he runs 4 amps at once. The DB4's are to the left of the Z cab with the wrecks on top. The Z cab with the Bruno on top is in fact a DB4 combo. The Bruno was brought out to compare with the rocket. The DB4 is a fa...

Re: My Rocket Clone Vs Brad Paisley's Rocket
Damn, what a great experience and thanks for sharing! Did you find out what EL84s he was using? I would love to know this. NOS Mullards! Did you by any chance notice what was loaded in the DR.Z cab, or is it a closed design? He uses an Alnico Blue and Alnico Gold together in a 2x12, open back, for ...

My Rocket Clone Vs Brad Paisley's Rocket
I haven't posted here in a while, but I figured you guys would get a kick out of this. I built my rocket and express clone about 10 years ago with help from AmpGarage, and today, I got to do a shootout with Brad Paisley and his Rocket(named Marcie?). My band is opening for him on this summer tour. H...

Re: Rocket Issue
Hope it works! When it cuts out does it go silent, like no sound what-so-ever? Are the filaments still glowing when it happens? Rectifier failures are usually pretty spectacular, and not intermittent, so I'm betting against that. And yes it goes completely silent instantly. I also don't suspect the...

Re: Rocket Issue
Thanks everyone for the help. When it cut out, I was in the middle of a show and didn't get to check it. The heaters were on, but I didn't check to see if the blue glow was there. The amp made it through tonight's show ok with v1 and v2 replaced. I also threw a small fan behind it blowin on the 84's...

Re: Rocket Issue
Well that is a piece of info you can use. Connect a speaker and power it up with some kind of continuous signal going into the input, or if there is enough noise already maybe just use that (and there may be with the cover off). Poke around systematically with a chopstick, nudging every joint, comp...

Re: Rocket Issue
I'm pretty sure it's a tube issue at this point. Everything else checks out. Just need to wait a few days for new tubes to come in.

Re: Rocket Issue
Pulled it out of the cab, and now it's working. Pretty frustrating. Has to be a bad connection or something...martin manning wrote:Hey that's great news! Now you can find the problem and fix it.

Re: Rocket Issue
Well today the amp is completely dead.... No sound or hiss. Wish I had an extra cab with me off stage so I could diagnose.

Re: Rocket Issue
Last night, I opened up the amp and checked all the solder connections. Everything seemed fine, as did grounds. I took out all of the tubes, and cleaned the pins and sockets. I suspect that excessive heat may have been causing one of the pins to lose contact. The amp worked flawlessly today for abou...
