Re: Asteroid unpleasing distortion
Ok, it's been quite a while, but this weekend I got back to messing with the amp. And I think I have solved the issue. I was a bit concerned that there was going too much voltage across the pi, so I though about ways to lower the voltage a bit. In the end, I remembered reading about putting some cur...

size of internal frame in TL 806
Hey.
I'm thinking about building a TL 806 cabinet, since I got an old evm12l lying around.
I'm looking over the build plans, but can't find the specific sizes (particularly width) of the internal frame.
Am I missing something in those plans?
Regards
Anders

Re: Asteroid unpleasing distortion
Not at the moment.
When I used the headphone amp to track the audio through the amp, the harsh sounds seemed to originate in the PI.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to really make it go away from there.
So for now, I've been been working on a different amp.

Re: few questions on layout
@tubedude The .1 is related to the vvr HT scaling. It prevents DC on the guitar pot. In Dana Halls documentation he shows it located after the input grid stopper. I'm just wondering if it would be better to put it before the grid stopper. @ Sluckey I hadn't seen a grid stopper there before either. I...

few questions on layout
Hey. Just wanted to hear you guys' opinion on a few layout points: On a typical gainstage-cathode follower using both sides of one 12ax7, there will be HT on one of the plate pins. Is there any ill effect (noise, oscillation, etc.) from having the regular 100k plate resistor straight on the socket? L...

Re: driver circuit for two latching relays?
These are latching relays, and I need to control two independantly, so it's a bit different from normal non-latching relays.
That's why I wonder if the circuit I drew up would work?

Re: driver circuit for two latching relays?
Thx - but unfortunately for the circuit I found, the switch isn't going to ground. You can see the circuit in this schematic of the amp: https://www.dropbox.com/s/yiaovf24a9xfqql/Suburbia%20v03.pdf?dl=0 The switch shorts out a capacitor, so I fear that particular circuit would require 4 wires out to...

driver circuit for two latching relays?
Hey. I'm about to build an amp, in which I'll be able to switch channels using a latching relay - both from a momentary switch on the front, and from a pedal (also momentary switch). (I want to use the single coil latching relays that stay in place after power is turned off). I found a nice driver c...

Re: Asteroid unpleasing distortion
I actually tried 100k gridstoppers on the powertubes a while back.
But thanks for the suggestion
Hmm... maybe i could try a larger stopper on the pi. I only tried 10k there I think.

Re: Asteroid unpleasing distortion
yeah, my very first thought was about blocking distortion. However, I've tried large grid stoppers pretty much throughout the amp, which didn't do all that much. And I also bypassed the ppimv a few posts back :-) I keep coming back to wondering whether it simply is the way it sounds - which is why I...
