Re: Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Switching Problem.

If the +/-16V rails have almost no AC voltage on them (bad filters, resistors or zeners in the LV supply), then: I'd be inclined to look at R89 and R92 - they provide hysteresis to the 4560 being used as a comparator. Or pins 5 and 3 on U3. Then I might think about C48, C45 or C51 Is it JUST the OD ...

Value Decision time

This is gonna sound stupid. I have a non-reissue Blues Deluxe with a burnt-up low voltage supply that I don't seem to be able to fix and a functioning HRDeluxeIII. I recently bought one of the MonkeyMatic ODS boards to build into one of these chassis. I just can't decide. Do I - move unburnt the BlD...

That circuit has plenty of a Verb even with only 14 volts!
I want to move the heat off the board, and I'd prefer not to have those rails draw more current than they're actually using.

Hot Rod series +/-16V Supplies

So, I know this problem has been solved to Fender's - and our - satisfaction by fiddling with dropping resistor values and by going to chassis-mount resistors. That didn't make me super happy, because I'm a feature creep. I recently got hold of a Blues Deluxe (not a reissue) that has a big burned ar...

Re: What do you guys charge for parts?

I do the odd repair, and don't mark the parts up - I pay retail, and my client pays exactly that. In this way, the sales tax has been paid, but I don't have to mess with it. At 2 - 3 clients a year, this seems the most practical way.

Re: I think this is my favorite guitar solo.

That Ryan Adams solo is just killer- the kind of thing I hear in my head. Saying volumes in just a few very tasty notes. I'll take that over any shreddy wanking every time. That. On the other hand, only a couple of guitarists can get away with a solo of just one note (of a scale, played multiple ti...

Re: epiphone sheraton ii or gibson es-335

For the money, I'd look at an Ibanez AS-73, -75 or -93. You may have to go through a few to find one that feels 'right', but I've been pretty happy. / I say this as a serial guitar owner who only misses his '83 ES345 (second) that he (stupidly) sold in '90 and saw in 2006 at South Austin Music, tagg...

Re: women

Women are the only reason I bother continuing to breathe. Married - and divorced - a Texas girl. It was never very good. Married a Charlotte girl who fits me perfectly. The three most wonderful things she ever said to me were, "Yes," "Oh, go buy a guitar," and "Oh, go buy a Miata." It's been ten yea...

Re: PCB Layout: Heater Traces / Wiring Best Practices

Like Gingertube said, but wire direct to as close to the pin as you can get. There's a line of Oranges that tried to use a string of connectors on a twisted pair, and those just did not work.

Just snagged a 120:12/6V@450mA transformer for $1.29 and a 12.6/6.3@3A one for $1.76

Y'all might want to drop in and pick over the leavings for other useful items.

Re: MOSFET B+ reducer

Just want to mention - that 205W rating is true only if you keep the junction at 25C while you do it. The line in the datasheet R[theta]ja tells you that, without a heatsink, you'll pick up 62.5C per watt dissipated. You get to take the junction to 150, so 150-25 = 125. 125/62.5 is TWO watts. With a...

Re: eplacing fan on laptop

ifixit.com sells a basic toolkit with a bunch of the odd little driver heads and a compartmented tray for the zillion different sizes and lengths of screw that tend to be involved. Also - if you do take out a heatsink, re-grease the thing before re-installing. Clean off the old gunk and put a rice-g...

10u seems a good guess, but over the 60 years or so it may have degraded from some even higher value. I think it looks too small to be higher than 47u, though.
