Re: Dumble Angels Breath?
Maybe he's just not interested in building amps anymore. He proved he can do it, that he can do it well, but maybe now he's bored with it. Could it be that all he really wanted to do all along was make a few killer amps for his favorite players? I don't know, but can completely understand.

Re: PRP Resistors
I have had one instance of that failure mode, which I posted here with a pic of the failed piece. This was at least two, maybe three years ago. The brazing of the lead to the body was defective. It actually came apart in my hand before it was even on the board. I sent the pic to PRP's website, they...

Re: PRP Resistors
Nice looking amp! The amp I built using them was back in 2008, hopefully they've addressed this issue since then.

Re: PRP Resistors
Sorry for the years late reply. But yes, I've tried them, and will never use them again. Tonewise, I have no complaints, my problem is their construction. The first and only amp I built with them, I broke several resistors where the lead is brazed to the end cap. They just break at that joint when I...

Re: Dumble 044
If the Kaiser Dumble is a #3x then it would be a lot like the #33 schematic but without the tube effects loop.

Re: Dumble 044
In the post above Max said it was Henry Kaiser's ODS 50W. Mark Yes, I got that. When I played it years ago it was being borrowed from Kaiser for a tone shootout. What I'm asking is if there is a serial number to identify it. And if anyone knows what schematic would be closest to it. Probably couldn...

Re: Dumble 044
The 50w ods was a later version that had received service from Mr Dumble. It sounded glorious. :D Jelle, thanks for the info. Do you know what happened to his "export ODS 50W". Telling from a picture on Bill Morgan's site, he fitted it into a red head cabínet (AFAIR made by Mojo - as I've been told...

Re: asteroid question
I've found ceramic sockets just don't hold the tube as tightly as Beltons, especially with octal sockets.

Re: New Build - Z Wreck Style
Nice job Steve. You sure have some building chops. It's on par with Marks. Now I know were I can find some subcontractor amp builders. BTW I'm curious, minus your labor how much do you have invested in parts to build that amp? Also I can see your going to have a problem with your Switchcraft #12 in...

Re: Heat Shrink
In the first instance it doesn't make sense because it's leads over a board. But in the Bad Cat example it's understandable to keep the point-to-point leads from making contact.

Re: What was your very first build?
My first was back in 1983. A friend has the sweetest sounding blonde Bassman you can imagine. I knew almost nothing about electronics at the time but had already been making my own dependable guitar cables for a few years so I thought I could handle soldering an amp together. I borrowed his Bassman ...

Great job! You know, Dumble may have come up with the circuit and layout, but I've seen work from builders on this forum, like yours, that is so nice and clean it puts Dumble to shame, it really does.

It would be perpetually groovy to see a close-up picture of that amp!
