Re: Power Supply Caps in Series

Wine is good for you, Lou! Wish I could have a glass now, but alas it is day time here in Taipei and I'm at work.

Thanks.

Re: Power Supply Caps in Series

Divide farads by 1,000,000 to get uF. Or multiply uF by 1,000,000 to get farads. Somehow, I've fallen into a parallel universe. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farad 1 Farad = 1,000,000 uF (microfarad) or stated differently - 1 uF = 1 millionth of a Farad. - I read that as it takes 1 million uF to eq...

Actually it's the other way round :)

OK...

Now you guy's are messing with me.

You do have to divide uF (microfarads) by one million to get Farads:

1 uF = 0.000001 Farads, right?

Thanks

Re: Power Supply Caps in Series

Thanks Martin - for the both the explanation and the math lesson

C in Farads is too big.... Always get confused on the conversions. I guess uf has to be divided by one million to convert to Farads.

Thanks

Power Supply Caps in Series

We often see the main supply caps wired in series to increase the voltage handling capacity. At the same time, a resistor is usually added across each cap to help equally apply the voltage to each cap. Merlin's site notes the resistor should be 50/C or less and uses an example of two 100UF caps in s...

Re: Rocket Problems

It looks like your using pins 1 & 6 on the EL84 powertubes as tie/jumper points. The data sheet list those pins as "IC" (Internal connection). Not sure what the IC's are, but you may want to try wiring without using those pins.

Good luck.

Nice work!

The deluxe reverb is one of my favorites.

Thanks for posting.

Re: Deal on strings

Mike, Are you a transplant from the states? I have a good friend who left California for Honk Kong a dozen or so years ago - he's a great kryboardist, and he absolutely loves it there. Best I can tell, he's not short of gigs either, as he's playing all the time. Lou I'm originally from Florida, but...

Re: Deal on strings

Shipping from Taiwan might be a bit high to make the EBay deal work.

Lou - I like the dunlops too, but usually go for the best deal. Too many guitars to keep stringed up, humidity is high in Taiwan - shortens string life.

Deal on strings

Music store here in Taipei had their D'addario seven string sets on sale. Now I don't play a seven string, but these cost less than the same brand six string sets. Not really familiar with seven string sets so I compared the individual string gauges to the six string set I usually use (.010 - .046)....

Re: Rocket Build

It's better to separate the grounds for the pre-amp filters from the power amp & PI filter. I usually try to match the preamp and PI filter grounds to the spot those tubes are grounded and the power filters near or at the same spot at the PT ground. I know when I built my first rocket, I initially g...

Re: 6AT6

Interesting, but too bad not much use in guitar amps for the diode sections. Leo was pretty frugal -probably would have found a use if any made sense.

Anyway, by buddy has a bunch he can roll through now.

Thanks

Re: 6AT6

Martin, thanks for the prompt response. As always, I appreciate the information that you and other very knowledgeable members of this forum take the time to post.

RP - the data sheet advised not to use the diode section to bias the triode section.

Thanks again.

Re: 6AT6

Thanks guys. My friend's Ivy League amp sounds pretty good with the lower gain 6at6. Will let him know about the higher gain 6av6. The 6at6 is definitely priced right and the 6av6 is pretty good too at $5.35. https://www.tubesandmore.com/search/node/6av6 Martin - could you expand on your small signa...

6AT6

Hello everyone, Back to Taiwan after a Christmas visit to the US. Usually, I bring some stuff back for myself and expat friends that I order from Antique Electronics and similar places. One of my friends recently acquired the Ivy league amp by Victoria. It's basically a dead nut copy of the Fender 5...
