Re: Marshall 1969 Plexi Clone - Hum and Buzz

I couldn't tell where the filter cap can is grounded, but if that's not grounded at (or near) the input jack, it can introduce hum - particularly if it shares or is close to the power cap ground.

Thanks

Re: Trademark dispute - rj Guitars

RJ,

It's a scam. My company receives similar messages all the time. We have numerous trademarks, logos and domains registered in Asia.

If you're interested in registering something in Asia or the west, I can put you in touch with a great and reasonably priced firm.

Re: Reducing gain in a wreck?

I did this by installing a split plate load on the third (I think) stage. You can modify the split to taste (50k/50k, 22k/82k, 82k/22k, etc). I love the results. This can also be switchable, whee one position engages the split, and the other position goes back to stock. Plus 1 - Like this one. Mike...

Re: No impedance selector

Thanks Martin, As an FYI, I searched the forum several times without stumbling over that post. Looks like it will do the job. As to my original question, it would not be advisable to use wire two separate secondary taps to switching jacks if wired in the usual switch to ground method. Thanks & Merry...

No impedance selector

Merry Christmas, Looking to wire a champ type circuit with two output jacks, one connected to the 8 ohm secondary and one connected to the 16 ohm secondary. Because of the limited space would need to do it with no impedance selector. I normally use shorting jacks and a switch to change secondary tap...

That's what I thought. Shouldn't have much impact, if any on the sound - the trimmer is before the plate resistors.

Thanks

Re: PI trimmer power rating

the pot doesn't see 300v, its more like 10v. So 10x10/5000=.02A (2mA). Wattage: 2ma x 10v = 20mW Thanks - it's the voltage drop across each side of the pot that is the concern rather than the input voltage. I guess this trimmer is actually in series with the plate resistors (one on each leg) which ...

PI trimmer power rating

Hello, Would appreciate if one of the more knowledgeable members could explain how to determine the minimum power requirement for a potentiometer (trimmer) as used as a phase inverter balancing trimmer. I know the basic ohm's law and power formula - just not sure how to use them in this case. Not su...

Re: Pedal Mule 30 - Prototype build

Thanks RJ, That's helpful. I'm thinking about a variant of this circuit. I have an express type chassis with three preamp tube sockets. Might use the second as a built in fx loop. Just need to find the time. Pretty sure I have a 3 meg dual potentiometer from an solid state stereo from the 70's.. Hop...

Re: Pedal Mule 30 - Prototype build

RJ, Sorry to resurrect this great thread. Thinking about building an amp based on this circuit. It looks there is a resistor across the bass pot in the build pics. Didn't see it on the schematics - am I missing something? Would appreciate any clarification you or anyone else can give. Thanks Mike

Re: Delayed swell with standby on Rocket

I'm not sure what I'm seeing, but do the cathode bias cap and resistor have 2 grounding points? I also question the grounding points for the filter caps. The artificial center tap should probably be re-flowed. Agree with checking the filter grounds. It looks like the preamp and power supply filters...

Re: Seven Lessons from How Private Equity Wrecked Guitar Center

I know the agreements aren't static, especially when the PE guys are involved. But eventually the lenders (banks and bondholders) reach their limits. May not be bankruptcy - could be an acquisition. Plenty of wealthy Chinese funds are itching to get the funds out of China - buying a well known US br...

Re: Seven Lessons from How Private Equity Wrecked Guitar Center

Guitar Center is probably not too far from bankruptcy. Very likely will impact Gibson and Fender. Gibson more than Fender because Gibson's dealer requirements are out of reach for many of the smaller mom and pop shops around the country. Consequently, Gibson has a high concentration of risk with the...
