Re: Did JJ 6V6 tubes ruin my amp?

UPDATE:
Upon acting on everyone's input, I found that I did indeed have an output tube socket failure of some sort. After replacing it, all is well! The JJ 6V6's are in and sound great. Thanks so much you guys!!!

Re: Did JJ 6V6 tubes ruin my amp?

Thanks guys! I will check on these things in a day or two. FYI: I did test those "dead" tubes in another amp and they are fine. Thank God, because the two preamp tubes are smooth plate telefunkens! Any idea on why my preamp plates are showing 450ish volts? Is there something connecting the dead fila...

Re: Did JJ 6V6 tubes ruin my amp?

I measured at each tube socket heater pin and also the pilot. All the same.

Did JJ 6V6 tubes ruin my amp?

I have built an amp based on the Fender Deluxe-ish circuit with no reverb or vibrato. It uses a cathodyne phase inverter and has three stages of gain. So that's two 12ax7 preamp tubes. It's pretty close to Leo's circuit with a few component value changes for taste. I had it sounding fantastic and wa...

Re: AB763ish build problem

Well, I started to jot down my voltages and check my solder joints and take a general look around. I found a resister that I hadn't added to my layout. It is the 1M coming off of the third stage .022 uf coupling cap and going to ground. I think it stabilized things a bit. Anyway, I can crank it and ...

Re: AB763ish build problem

Hi TM, I will post where you suggest. Meanwhile, I will scan my layout and take voltage measurements. And while I'm in the chassis, I will double-check my solder connections. And so you know, I'm no electrician. I have successfully built a JTM45 clone, 50watt Plexi clone, Trainwreck Express clone (t...

AB763ish build problem

Hi everyone. I recently built an AB763ish amp. It is basically a one input AB763 without the reverb and vibrato. I went with the layout for the vibrato channel with its three stages of gain. I used all ClassicTone transformers: ClassicTone # 40-18028 PT, ClassicTone # 40-18087 OT, and standard Fende...

Re: Great Strat tone but way overdriven LP tone....Express poll

Here is a perspective from someone who preferes HBs in general. I have an Explorer with Kevin Smits Ultra 7D alnico 8 magnets and an SG with Burstbucker pros. So both guitars are equipped with humbuckers with the Explorer being heavier and having hotter pickups. Through my Express clone, I get two r...

Re: Power Transformer vibrating and humming. Ideas appreciated.

I've emailed Chris at Toneslut, and we've decided to replace the humming and vibrating PT. You can hear the transformer hum from across the room with no tubes or input while on standby with the speaker unplugged and the chassis in the cab. When the new one comes in, I'll do the swap and go from ther...

Re: Power Transformer vibrating and humming. Ideas appreciated.

I am using the Toneslut Vintage spec output transformer and all of the wires are being used. The only wires I have shrinkwrapped are coiled up under the power supply board and are the unused rectifier lines and unused 260v lines of the power transformer. I wasn't very clear about that. Is OPT short ...

Re: Power Transformer vibrating and humming. Ideas appreciated.

The transformers are set at 90 degrees to each other, give or take a degree. I'm thinking it could be hum induction through the air because the tone is the same at the transformer as the speaker. Is there something wrong with the transformer? Or is there something wrong with my circuit? Although I w...

Power Transformer vibrating and humming. Ideas appreciated.

This is my first post on this great forum. I completed my TWreck Express clone today. This is only the second amp I've built (I also did a JTM45). I feel more like a modeler than a knowledgeable amp maker. I used a Ceriatone chassis and Toneslut Transformers, including the Vintage output transformer...
