Re: Is there switchable push-pull <-> single-ended mod?
Well... It's actually pretty easy and not very complicated.... Peavey calls it a Texture control. It's basically a post PI volume control for one of the power tubes. You turn the volume off for one of the power tubes, the remaining tube becomes your SE amp output. If you play with the value of the 8...

Re: Weller soldering stations
The problem with too high of a temp is that the flux will evaporate before it can clean the surfaces to be joined properly and the soldered joint will be of poor quality.... You need to know the characteristics of the type of solder you're using, melting point etc, and experiment with temps b...

Re: The Valve Wizards preamp layout
The tone stack doesn't look right. The bass control looks Voxish but seems to be connected backwards. It also looks like your missing a tone cap, (.1uf?) is the 200k slope resistor supposed to be hardwired to the bottom of the treble control?

Re: 6V6 Rocket......why not ?
There are several ampbuilders that have had good results along those lines..... TopHat amps had some success in building amps with the Voxish + 6V6 formula... Back in the 90's when Dr-Z was building amp exclusively with EL84's I asked him if he'd ever consider building an amp with 6V6's his somewhat...

Re: detuned cabinets
De-Tuned_Cabs_&_Amp.JPG Sorry don't have the exact dimensions and I don't have these cabinets anymore but if I recall correctly they were around 11.5" to 12" deep. Ther amphead on top was about 23" wide and would sit suggly on the top some I'm thinking they were ~24" wide. Two of the cabs have 15" ...

Re: detuned cabinets
There's no phase cancel issues but on thing I found out after building four detuned cabs was if you make the ports too small you're guitar will sound like a bass and you'll shake the walls, windows, and anything not nailed down in the house....

Re: My take on a Vox hybrid
Since the gain in this amp is higher that a AC30 type amp you might want to increase those 100 ohm screen resistors to 1k or higher. KOC recommends 2k.
Also 25W is a bit overkill on the 120 ohm cathode resistors. 10W is more than adequate.

Re: Monkeymatic univalve build
that drawing looks much better layout wise. Each item having its own individual ground. Grounding grids, cathode, signal and filter on the same gain stage close together but keeping each gain stage separate would be the idea Merlin, O'Connor, etc... keep stressing

Re: Monkeymatic univalve build
I maybe using the term "star Ground" a bit loosely but the point is you've got several ground points tied onto your ground lug while other ground leads are running in series. My point is your grounding scheme is non-standard and I've seen this type of grounding cause issues. It may not be your probl...

Re: Monkeymatic univalve build
Your grounding looks "daisy chained" to me; could the way you're using the volume control lug as a star ground point be an issue?
Maybe try adding a grounded copper buss wire, separate the grounds and attach them to the buss....
Just a thought...

Re: Gradual/fast switch
That's my drawing.... I put that circuit into a Train-wreckish type of amp I built years ago. I came up with that design due to paranoia involving the thought of HV DC on a mini toggle switch with a metal toggle mechanism on it, which I would have to touch.... Another thing you can do with that arra...

Re: Color of JBL recone kit looks darker
It could be a difference in color due to age. Black speaker cones can get bleached by sunlight which can change the color.
What do the cones look like on the back? That should reveal the original color...
