Re: What're you listening to right now??

Not music, but a podcast. Been binge listening to The Fretboard Journals "The truth about vintage amps" podcast with Skip Simmons, entertaining and worth a listen, I think a lot of us will be able to relate to Skip.

Re: This captcha thing

I hate Captcha, it's used as an algorithm to program AI. You are the data input monkey to help the AI learn, that's why it's always pictures of other vehicles, traffic signs, lights, store fronts, crosswalks. Helping AI learn to drive through annoying backdoor time wasting.

Re: Anybody know what this is...?

Maybe a Bassman SP3100? My grandpa gave me one when I was 12 or 13 and it let the smoke out which made me first want to learn how to fix amps. It's been a long long time but it looked kinda like that inside. They went for max crammage on those things. http://reverb.com/ca/item/1069755-fender-bassman...

Sorry! I mistook the NFB switch for a possible relocated standby. Now that I see it by the OPT jacks it all makes sense!

Re: Monkeymatic Tamalpais #3 (5F6A/JTM45)

It's bluetooth wireless! I think I'd put the standby back on the front and put the MV on the back (if that's what's going on in the pics). The Frondeli is nice if you lose a wiper, but like most PPIMV it should be used full up as often as possible to approximate the stock circuit and only knocked ba...

Years ago I had a snake in my garage in Red Bluff I was trying to encourage it to leave and it slithered into a black widow web and the spider killed it!

Re: French polish

Be really careful with step 2 above (waxing). If your pores and divots aren't completely filled, the wax will get in them and be hard to get out, even a piece that looks smooth will get little hazy micro streaks in the grain unless you've really built things up and leveled them out.

Re: French polish

Here's a bad cell phone pic of my daughter's bass cabs; https://live.staticflickr.com/7801/46666590225_c09e9e2bb3_b.jpg They're 1/2" ply, I wanted to keep them light for her. They are both torched, but I went a little heavier on the 2x12 and liked the results better. On a dark stage you wouldn't kno...

Re: French polish

Shellac fills the pores, using a bit of abrasive smooths the finish and knocks the high spots of the previous coat into the lows to fill the grain. The traditional guys use pumice powder, normal joes use super-fine steel wool. The oil is not part of the finish, it's just to keep the pad lubed so it ...

Re: Any magnepan users here?

ER, thank you...yes Dipole instead of bipolar. Long day and I had just been hunting for crossover caps....funny how that works. I love horns too. Such system takes up too much space for me right now. And I have never heard the woofer and horn integrate perfectly to my liking. Bipolar works t...

Re: Any magnepan users here?

They are like a figure 8 mic pattern, in fact they are very similar to a ribbon mic in design. The actual term applied to panel element and ribbon type speakers is "dipole". Another type of these speakers are "electrostatic" panel speakers. Imagine unrolling a big giant capacitor and making a panel ...
