Re: PM tubes?

Good to know, next amp I'm working on is 7591's and the JJs don't look like the real thing, gonna go with the EH. For about 100 years my ancestors lived not to far from Saratov where the EH factory is, thank God they got out of there or I'd probably be in Siberia now.

That sounds fantastic, how long do you have to play it before you get your sea legs?

Re: PM tubes?

Thanks, LG, good advice. Upon further digging it looks like they are out of the Shuguang factory and tested and rebranded by PM and are an offshoot of their "Golden Gragon" hi-fi offerings. Shuguangs have been sold as Groove Tubes, TAD, Penta, Fender, Mesa, Ruby, etc. If they sound any good there's ...

PM tubes?

Anybody have any experience with Peter Watson's PM tubes? Look interesting, was thinking of picking some up to check 'em out. I've heard good things about them, but no firsthand experience as they mostly sell in the UK.

Re: The shit we worried about in 2006

I only heard a difference with parts I had a personal stash of. If I had to buy them from someone else's stash for an inflated price, I worried less. My cheap-skatery always managed to overpower my tone-snobbery. Bang for the buck, building in reliability (amps always sound best right before they bl...

Re: Problem with selling amps is...

[/quote] "True to form" story, just 2 days ago. I have a crustomer, he has a factory-fresh Blues Jr in early 60's style brown Tolex. He wanted me to gut it, & build an entirely new amp inside. That was over 2 years ago. So I sat on it, waiting for him to tell me what sort of tone he's going for. Nev...

Re: What powertubes are you using?

I use the JJ 6ca7 in my 100 watt D/hiwatt style amp and I like them a lot for that, lots of omph and somewhere between American and British. Haven't tried them in a wreck or marshall type amp. Mullards are great, that was the straw that broke the camel's back to make me learn to tech and build my ow...

Re: Problem with selling amps is...

I'm an artist, anything I build is an elaborate sculpture that's only meant to be looked at and appreciated as the fine work of art that it is. If the person that buys it wants to touch it, plug it in, or try and make music with it, that's on them. I bet there's some bronze sculptures that would sou...

Re: Silvertone Twin Twelve

That's certainly true, oceans of water will be found on the Moon before replacement knobs are found for the 1484 and other model Sears amps that use that style knob! Or the grey wallpaper "tolex" for that matter! I have one on the bench (1484 head) that I got off craigslist for $50, cheap enough to...

Thanks Xtian! I think I emailed you when we first came back and I was in Anderson, saw your monkeymatics on Craigslist. We've settled more or less permanently now about halfway between Los Molinos and Red Bluff. When I get my studio finished, maybe we can get together for a jam or at least a hang out.

Dipping my toe back in the pool...

Hey guys, Lots of familiar names still hanging around, hope everyone is doing well. My own personal health has been on a rollercoaster since 2010 when my office flooded at work and I was exposed to mold and water damage. Been a battle ever since and had to put everything I owned in storage for a few...

Then they went on and did another 15 years as the "King Cotton Jazz Band" added piano, sax, trombone, banjo and the guitar player played trumpet. Played dixieland at all the fundraisers, fairs, and festivals all over nor cal.
