Re: TW clone handle?
Here are three cabs I built a while back that do what you are talking about. The Bubinga/Flame Maple cab was for a Komet 60. The all Flame Maple cab was for my Komet Concorde. And the Flame Maple with the laminated front panel was for my old Wizard Modern Classic. I borrowed this idea from Wizard ca...

Re: TW clone handle?
If you want the faceplate to look nice find a local trophy shop that has a laser. You can take them your faceplate and the layout of the holes and control names such as volume.. bass... power.. etc. Depending on where you go the cost can be anywhere between $25 to $50. Just call some shops and see w...

Re: Trainwreck Cabinets
Hi.. have you built a Wreck style cab yet? If so post a picture.. I would be interested to see how it looks. The problem I found in building really nice hardwood Wreck style cabs, or any style of hardwood cab for that matter, is the time and effort it takes to make them great means they are going to...

[img:1024:768]http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g268/Distortion_2006/Stuff/DSC04817.jpg[/img] Back right...is that for a D style head? The cab you are talking about was built for one of Gary's early Glaswerks SOD amps. I can say without a doubt it is the deepest head cab I have built to date. Gary ...

Re: Ford/Tag thread locked.
My question for the few in the know is why turn back now? The picture was posted and I'm sure it's being passed via email to anyone who wants it. It was nice to see a productive thread that brought new info to the group. Does the current owner of 183 feel the amp will loose $10K in value if the wor...

Re: Express Head Cab
Is it crazy expensive to get this laser etching done? I have enough Cherry left to make a few faceplates, so i could make more than one, send one off, and still rock a completed amp until the etched plate came back in! 8) Next question does anyone offer these services? Jim Check with local shops th...

Re: Express Head Cab
In my opinion nothing pops the grain like an oil. IMHO. I actually prefer a double stain application using alcohol.. It seems to make the grain just jump out of the wood.. plus you can tint it for most colors. Here are a few Wreck cabs I built last year.. plus there is a lonely Glaswerks cab over o...

Re: Cherry Cabinets to Trainwreck Specifications
I've done a lot of wood working and made about 15 guitars, truthfully I have a lot more experience in that arena than I do with amps. Seeing that I am about to start on my first Trainwreck build (right RJ?) it has made me reflect on the cabinet issue. Unless I am grossly wrong as to the wood type, ...

Re: Cherry Cabinets to Trainwreck Specifications
And it isn't the building of the cabs that is the hard part, its putting on the finish.. I leave that for someone that has the experience and tools. I just build the amps.. :) Richie nailed it... I have built more Wreck style cabs that I can remember.. and the time and effort it takes to build the ...

Re: Workbench
Larry and Tom, what you guys coax out of a piece of wood is like a gem stone. You just can't take your eyes off it :!: Hey Tim, I agree that Tom's guitar looks great. Over the years I have found out it is actually quite simple building great looking pieces.. The trick is getting rid of all the ugly...

Re: Workbench
My double stain technique is something that I figured out about a year ago. It involves different stains mixed in alcohol with sanding in between colors. It is easy and hard at the same time, but once you figure out how it is done it is quite impressive. However it can be costly if you screw up a ni...

Re: Workbench
Man, those are beautiful. If you are going to toss them away I will send my address. :D What kind of clear coat do you use Larry? Nitro lacquer or poly? Hey Tom, I use a lacquer called water clear. It works the best for what I need. I could use Nitro but it is considerably more expensive pl...
