Re: debt free

Congratulations! ...wood for the stove...... I just put in a wood stove a couple months ago- I figure it's saving me ~$300 a month this time of year, and my house is less than 1000 ft. sq. It's a little bit of work, but I'm young and I like it Too bad for the Saudi's and the oil guy - Them= M=:...

Re: Possible 4x12 incarnations

MCA,
I'm always down to build and try a cab I haven't before - if you wouldn't mind measuring the pertinent dinensions I love to have a go at it.

Thanks a bunch,
Dan

Re: Dumble 2x12 cab

Yup Tom, it's solid wood strips glued into a panel and veneered on both sides with thin "plies". Imagine if you will - Take a piece of ordinary run of the mill birch plywood. Now grab one corner of the very top layer and peel it off the rest, repeat on the other side. Now go into your living room wi...

Re: Dumble 2x12 cab

Chris, you're right about the finger joints - trial and error until you get the set up just tight enough and off you go... If I setup for that sort of thing I try to get a couple cabs or heads while I'm there all prepped. On a cab this size they're just about a necessity because of their strength, b...

dano-rator, Yours also looks cool. :D Kind of natrual look. You're too kind, but I appreciate the comment. :) Projects like these (one's I know will never leave my place) seem to end up with a sort of utilitarian beauty or a rustic charm if you will. You know, wire-brushed, oiled and let 'er rip! Dan

Re: Dumble 2x12 cab

You're mighty welcome, Chris. That thing looks really good. Here's the one I built. It's made out of lumber core - the elusive material that the originals were allegedly constructed from. The cabinet is half oak core with cedar veneer and half poplar core with mahogany veneer. If anyone's looking fo...

Re: Cherry Cabinets to Trainwreck Specifications

When I first started browsing this forum, I saw all the cabs people were making for there heads and it seemed they were all mitered along the full width, which is pretty difficult to pull off - you have to spend alot of time prepping the wood right (perfectly flat) and setting up your saw. But when ...

Re: Workbench

I've been using my apartment's terrace, where I have my table saw, router table, other tools. When I'm not using the terrace, I'm using the floor of the den. Neither is comfortable, but I have no other place to do the woodworking. It's times like this that I miss my house's garage (but not the ex-w...

Re: Who is running the show @ UPS?

I wouldn't ship anything valuable between Thanksgiving and the New Year. Peak season... Fragile really is pretty much meaningless, there's no substitute for really good packaging -and that gets you about a 50/50 shot. And in my experience, a 50/50 shot pays off about 25% of the time. I'm astonished ...

Re: 120v pilot lights?

I would think most solid state gear would have 120v neon lamps or such, I know my Randall does, as well as my MusicMan.

As Aurora said, just don't weave the wires through the preamp capacitors. :)

Re: CMA awards

Perhaps it was my comment that taylor swift should "spare herself and all of us" that spurred lumox's "backhanded jabs". I guess a smiley emoticon would have been appropriate as it was meant more as a joke than an affront. If lumox or anyone else likes to listen to her music, that's fine; obviously ...

Doesn't doubling the voltage halve the current?
I don't think 275ma is gonna work for 4 tube output.

I've no experience w/ 6550/kt88 at 475v, weather they'd stay clean and hit hard I'm not sure???
