Re: I locked the Volt thread.

What a nice place this is. Ampdork is declared the dork even though Brandon only got what he deserved, not to mention all the name calling he did.
By buying an amp from a member you support the hostile attitude and secrecy at this place. I think I've had it with this place.

Re: I locked the Volt thread.

I'm afraid the best chefs would rather sell their dishes than give out the recipes. Truly open development can only be done by those who do not sell stuff.

Re: What to do with the extra triode?

Parallel the first stage, half the value of all the pots in the tone stack/vol and double all the caps to keep loading similar. Plate resistor also, obviously.

Re: Behringer is trash

No, sorry. It's producing worthless old products for inflated prices that is running you out of jobs. You need to come up with new desirable products/services if you want to charge top dollar. The industrial revolution and accompanying wealth would never had happened with that kind of attitude. That...

Re: tube regulated screen grid supply

Miniaturized solid state makes consumer victims of us all... A single mosfet might do the job and is not all that miniaturized, pins about as far apart as on a noval tube. Not proven to sound inferior in this application either, so it's just having more tubes for the sake of tubes themself. Then ag...

Re: Behringer is trash

How do you think behringer should improve their business? I think they are doing good job challenging the old companies that are charging big bucks for old technology. Sure, their equipment is not designed to be worked on. Nevertheless, their Bugera tube amps do not have smd's, unlike some American/...

Very cool to dare to do some original thinking with component selection.

Re: tube regulated screen grid supply

Very interesting! Although not all that useful considering the extra heater current needed. Heater would also have to be elevated a lot as the cathode is at high potential. Similar solid state solution would eliminate the downsides of course.

If you have NFB connected, don't bother. It will correct any distortion possibly gained.

Re: Installing eyelets w/ board in chassis

Do you really need the extra eyelets is another matter. Why not just hot glue the components onto the board and solder leads without the eyelets? Resistors of course may get a bit hot if they carry DC.

Re: What does current rating mean on a PT.

Is it continuous rating is another matter. usually we want a minimum of 150mA for a pair of El34 or 6L6 and 100mA for EL84 or 6V6. Short current peaks will overload the PT temporarily but the thermal capacity of the windings absorb the extra heat.

Re: Best caps for dumble lite

I can't say anything bad about PS but still I find it a funny coincidence that all the best sounding caps you find in boutique amps in general happen to have long leads and look sexy. Edit:Just my personal views and intentionally trying to see things a bit differently. Guess I need to get that T-Shi...

Re: Best caps for dumble lite

I don't believe it's like there is a magical cap type that will be the best choice for every location. To avoid the hassle of trying out the 100000 combinations possible I go with a cheap alternative to start with. If not satisfied with the tone I try different values first, if still not happy then ...
