Re: Bass amp ideas, Odyssey, Winterland etc.

Oh Cool! Thanks so much for sharing!

Sounds pretty good man. It seems you feel the same way about your bass playing as I do mine.

Re: Bass amp ideas, Odyssey, Winterland etc.

Cool! clips would be great whenever you get the right hands on the amp. I was pretty sloppy with my lead dress since the amp has seen many different iterations. I found/combated the oscillations, but I'm going to go back and un/rebuild a little bit more for piece of mind/neurosis sake. Hopefully upd...

Re: Bass amp ideas, Odyssey, Winterland etc.

Nice Work- We'd (at least I would) love to hear clips!

I've had some trouble sorting oscillations and a few weeks of building hiatus. May have incorporate some of your ideas. I too added some LNFB at one point in the tweaking process and also liked the results.

Cheers!

Re: Bass amp ideas, Odyssey, Winterland etc.

Nice!

I think i'm going to do something similar using a LTP instead of a cathodyne and the 12au7 driver stage after it as well. Let us know how it goes!

Re: Bass amp ideas, Odyssey, Winterland etc.

I'm actually planning something quite similar. Did you end up deciding which PI/driver configuration to go with?

Re: Trainwreck Forum Newbee needs transformers for build

Welcome Piperbob! Pacific Trannys are generally thought of as "more original" as Ken used some in his amps I believe. I've had great experiences with Heyboer (as I am sure many others have) and used them in a great sounding Express build. I've been really wanting to try the Edcor TFs though. I've on...

Re: Wrecking the 18W

Hey Tom. I don't know if it's as much of the mid characteristics as it is the overall attitude of the amp... just not- *something* enough. Can't quite put my finger on it. That 'bucker/single coil cap trick might be useful in the future though. I'll have to keep that in my bag of tricks. James- I th...

Re: Wrecking the 18W

Thanks I'd heard of the Trex- don't think I've ever seen the schem though. I know that it would be pretty unstable to do the Liverpool type pre next to another channel. I planned on having to make some adjustments to the circuit to calm it down a bit- just wanted to see if it'd been done. It'd be a ...

Wrecking the 18W

Hello all- I am sure this has been discussed a thousand times... but I figured- what's 1001. I have never been totally happy with my 18W TMB clone that I built about a year or so ago. It sounds pretty decent with my strat at low-medium volume, but it just lacks a certain something with humbuckers. M...

Re: Fender Pre and Bassman Volume questions

Thanks Firestorm. I am going to try the 12Ay7 again today- and convert the rocket's tone stack to a baxandall type (fixed).

I can't believe my soldering iron took a whole day off. Got to get back to it.

Re: Fender Pre and Bassman Volume questions

Dave- hey... if this was my amp, I'd be doing doing the express thing- or at least something high(er) gain. But this is for a friend who wants vintage-y vox and fender tones (with the fender being clean, and the vox/rocket being dirty). So I want to up the drive on the rocket channel a bit to make i...

Re: Fender Pre and Bassman Volume questions

Thanks dave- that threw me for a loop for a while. But I think I've gotten it all ironed out in my head and have a .002uF in there now. I should have been more clear on what breakup I want to reduce... I'd like to keep the breakup on the rocket side of things- and keep the fender side as clean as po...

Re: Fender Pre and Bassman Volume questions

Ok so... Sounds good right now as in the schematic shown below. I did also replace V3 with a 12AX7. It's much louder due to the gain- but breaks up at about noon. Is there any way to fight against that? No problems with any sorts of weird distortion coming from the PI, PPIMV or anywhere else. Which ...

Re: Fender Pre and Bassman Volume questions

Well I tried it anyway between my last post and yours. It actually works quite well on the rocket channel (which is now being mixed into the "recovery"... whatever). Since I have the fender input grounded- I am going to make it a live jack- so I can switch between them to test both. By the way I lov...

Re: Fender Pre and Bassman Volume questions

This is the current state- minus the fender input being grounded.

Also- found a decent schem of a recovery stage. Does this look like a good one?
