Re: Input jack(s)

What you could do is wire the inputs to take advantage of the unused triode. You can have a look at the Trainflex schematic showing two different wirings. One has inputs to use single/parallel first stage; the other let you select between a first stage with Express or Komet cathode bypass values. I ...

Re: "Series" vs. "Shunt" switching

I have been considering to use JFETs to switch channels in one of my current project, in replacement of costly and somewhat obsolete LDRs.

What specific part number are you using? And how do you integrate those relatively smaller components in a "turret/eyelet" board environment?

Pics of completed headcab

I finished tolexing the headcab for my Trainwreck inspired amp this week. I could not find any supplier for the thin white piping so I used the gold one. I like the result though! :D [img:640:480]http://pages.videotron.com/chigbl/MX%20025.jpg[/img] [img:640:480]http://pages.videotron.com/chigbl/MX%2...

Re: Express-voiced Liverpool !?

Well, I've been using the Liverpool phase inverter in my Express clone since November 2003. It sounds far better to me! I have recently modified my Express clone PI to values you recommended in another thread; 47k tail and 1.2k cathode resistor. I ended up with a more usable amp to my liking: more ...

Re: More Express build Questions

1. There are 3 diodes connected from pin 3 to pin 8 on each power tube on the schedmatic (Kelly 90). On the layout, these diodes go from pin 3 to pin 1, and pin 1 is then connected to pin 8. Now I know that a 6V6 has no internal connection on pin 1, so using it as a connection point seems harmless ...

Re: Next build......Rocket or Liverpool?

I am one of those who voted for "Build nothing". It was in part because I do not know much about the Liverpool and the Rocket, but mostly as you said, it was a tongue in cheek response. Could not resist and just not vote. If there was a "Build both a Liverpool and a Rocket", I would vote for it now....

Re: Planning my first amp build

1- A tube rectifier affects the dynamics of an amp; it makes the power supply "sag" under current demand and thus change how the amp will sound. There is no advantage to use a tube rectifier with a Class A amp like the P1. 2- I have an 18watt tremolo head with single tone control and it does the job...

Sorry, but I could not resist! It is too easy to come after and say " Hey, I told you it was your PI !"

I am glad you fixed it and hope you will let us hear how it sounds.

Great work again! :D

Re: First time build....and it almost works...(help appreciated)

First thing, this is one of the nicest built I have ever seen. Very clean!

From what you indicates, nothing get beyond the preamp channels so you could concentrate around the PI and power amp. It is hard without a schematic or a layout to figure out from the pictures what could be wrong!

Re: "Missing part on switch"?

I do not know for sure but this layout was by Nick from Ceriatone. If you go back to his site, the phrase is gone but the layout looks the same. !?! :?

Maybe he can answer this one!

Re: 1N4007

I have used UF4007 from Mouser. part 625-UF4007

The 1N4007 is a pretty generic component so whatever brand you buy, they are equivalent.

Re: 18 watt with overdrive and master volume

I did not mean to be rude when I replied but you know that there is a fine line between someone being just happy to share a result ( I will put you in this category ) and someone subtly pushing an advertisement. This happen a lot on many forums I visit. You are absolutely right, there was no direct ...
