Re: 18 watt with overdrive and master volume

This is your right to keep the information for you but then... why post it here in the technical section? :?

I will stay polite and say it looks like free advertising.

Re: Trex BOM

I have not built one but went pretty close. I have made up a BOM in Excel and some work on a board and layout.

I will have a look when I am back home ( I am at work now  ) and see what I could send you if you are interested.

Re: MOV in the Express

in an old mesa/boogie catalog, they tout their amps as having spike protection (something about "a stage full of amps gets hit by lightning, and the boogies are the only ones left standing, yadayada..."), and in one pic a MOV is shown. I think it was V120LA20A(?). I have no idea how much practical ...

Re: Input jack proximity to turret strips...

I do not think it is going to cause any problem. When you think about it, turrets or eyelets are sometimes pretty close one to another.

In my builds, I do not go below 3/8" from turret center to center. This translate to about 3/16" between them.

Re: Input jack proximity to turret strips...

That's pretty close. Any problem when you insert a plug in the jack?

I do not think it can cause a problem though, especially if it is close to a ground. But I would be uncomfortable that close to a high voltage.

It also depends on how much work would be necessary to rearrange things.

Thanxs in advance!
Stew
The advantage of separate caps is that it gives you the opportunity to arrange grounding as you wish. You do not have this option with the multi caps common ground.

Re: Buying Garolite from McMaster-Carr..

I got a good deal on the garolite. I'm getting 3 sheets of 1/8" Garolite, 16" x 16" for about 70 dollars. Not bad. Thanks Dai H Tommy That's a good price you got there. I just received my order; 2 sheets of Garolite at $22 each and 2 sheets of GPO3 at $10, all sheets are 12" x 16". That should be e...

Re: Buying Garolite from McMaster-Carr..

Garolite is also called Micarta. It depends on who produce it.

I have placed an order with McMaster and I am going to see if it is going to work.

By the way, I am working for a Norwegian company and I have been there a couple of times. Norway is a very nice place; expensive though!

Re: Different ways of wiring a pot

Another difference I see is that one alternative ground the incoming signal and the other ground the outgoing signal when the wiper is on the ground side. When wiring a volume pot for example, I would think it makes more sense to use the second method.

Re: Buying Garolite from McMaster-Carr..

I went through the same situation with McMaster-Carr. I have looked around but the only suppliers I found sell it in 4'x8' sheets. That's a lot of Garolite. In despair, I emailed McMaster sales from work to understand what was the problem since they still tell us on their web site that there is no m...

Re: Ground question from a non tech

Do you mean the 1 M resistor to ground? This is used to reference the input grid to ground and is part of the biasing of the input triode.

Re: First clip of my Express build

So, for me, this begs two questions. 1. Why in the world would anyone *need* a 100W amp? 2. Is there any way to get "the tone" at a lower level? (Is it possible single-ended? Without going single-ended?) 1 . I guess if you need a lot of headroom, you may need a 100W amp. 2 . Mark Huss built a 18 wa...
