Re: Horizontal Tube Mounting

Hi Chris, I've always just cut small 'L' brackets from 1 1/2" "L" channel (Home Depot maybe Cdn Tire) and used those to hold a piece of garolite or the like. One "L" back and front. dave Hey Dave, it's been a while! I always like seeing your amps, that one looks great, very neat construction method...

Re: Horizontal Tube Mounting

Keep in mind that some tubes don't like to be mounted horizontally. And some need to be oriented a certain way if they are mounted horizontally. Check the data sheet. I know it is fine to do with some tubes, but I just hate to do it because I feel like the tubes are more fragile in that orientation...

Re: Horizontal Tube Mounting

Ended up getting some 1/8" thick aluminum that was 1/5" wide and making my own L-brackets for horizontal mounting. Made two, one for each channel in the preamp I am building. Fair bit of work, but I think they turned out alright. [IMG:1024:1365]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v610/kurtlives/DFB7BC...

Re: Horizontal Tube Mounting

Your local big box hardware store sells flat and L shaped aluminum. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-1-2-in-x-96-in-Aluminum-Angle-with-1-16-in-Thick-802597/204273989 I think you can buy it in 3' lengths, not so expensive. If you have an old fashioned Ace Hardware, they usually sell flat stock...

Horizontal Tube Mounting

I am building a preamp where the tubes will be inside a covered 3" high chassis. For this reason the tubes have to be mounted horizontally to make them fit and also to facilitate easy wiring. Does anyone know a source for L brackets or a horizontal mounting assembly? I have two 9 pin tubes. They can...

Re: What is this component?

So pin 1 is a cathode
There is probably a resistor bypassing that cap as well

Re: What is this component?

The component connects from pin 1 of the EAA91 (6AL5) to a ground post. This same grounding post also has a connection to the OT (?). The component in question has been replaced with the blue cap seen pictured here [IMG:1024:1365]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v610/kurtlives/9777E8D7-DE7F-4F6B-B3...

Re: What is this component?

Hmmm the amp is weak sounding now after replacing that "cap"

So maybe it wasn't a cap. What else could it be?

What is this component?

Restoring an old German radio from the 1940's/1950's. Removed this component thinking it was an electrolytic cap. Upon removing the component I can't decide what it really is. It has a + marking on one lead and it measures 9.5uF. Maybe it's a 10uF cap? [IMG:768:1024]http://img.photobucket.com/albums...

Nothing that interested me this "Black Friday RSD"

Did take advantage of a few online and local sales though.

Just got into this vinyl thing, rather fun!

Re: Pentode Bass control

check this out... pentodes like to see a high impedance, the very simple and old fashioned volume and tone works best. this thing is out of a Marshal JCM 800 bass rig, work pretty good after a simple volume and tone as a bass control. Interesting, three cascaded low pass filters with the common poi...
