Re: So I want to make a 5E3....where should I get a kit?
I've had my Mission 5E3 for several years now, still love it. Bruce is the best. Tips: for sure get a NOS 12AY7 and a NOS RCA 5Y3. I also bought two mods from Bruce. He has a humbucker mod which adds a filter (switchable) so a Les Paul sounds great and not over the top with crappy distortion. Like I...

Re: TW Faceplate?
Photos from tonights work. I ran out of good stock and had to use the ragged edge of the board. I need to stock up on some more exotic woods. I've not sanded these yet. The big burn marks are actually from the smoke, and the natural sugars in the wood carmalizing from the laser burning out the suga...

Re: parallel load box
I'd avoid putting a dummy load inside the amp because of the heat it will throw off. What I've done is simply bolt a high wattage 16 ohm power resistor inside a small aluminum box, using heat sink goop under the resistor. Drill a hole for a 2-conductor jack, connect the jack tip to one resistor term...

Re: New Express head cab - photos!
Ha, no, Larry told me he put in the faceplate just to take a picture and didn't notice the orientation. Rest assured it'll fit perfectly the regular way.drew wrote:Are those photos reversed? Or are you building a lefty wreck?
For now, we can all pretend it's the right way.

Yep, it's stunning. I don't have any furniture in my house that can compete with this!
I think it's time to order parts and fire up the soldering iron!

New Express head cab - photos!
Just got word from Distortion (Larry Mann) that the Express head cab he's been building for me is complete and ready to ship. Here are some pics. Now I definitely have to stop stalling, get off my butt and build the amp! [IMG:800:600]http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g268/Distortion_2006/TW%20Clone%...

Hey congrats. I'm about to build my first Express.
As for the transformer shunt method, remember you have to set your meter to DC amps AND (at least in the meters I've seen) move the red lead to a different jack on the meter to handle current - usually marked "A".

Re: Fuse wiring
I always read that you put the hot to the fuse, then to the on/off switch. If you put the common to the fuse and switch, in case of failure you'd have the hot where you don't want it. Maybe that's over-cautious but it's what I've always done.
