Re: Question regarding NFB
Thats just it....the master is PRE PI, not post. So nfb i would think would be affected equally with master settings. All other controls remaining constant, meaning you set them and leave them alone, with a PRE-PI MV turning it up will increase signal level into the PI AND on to the power tubes. Th...

Re: Question regarding NFB
In a marshall style amp that is. I remember reading somewhere about what causes the effects of NFB to be lessened when turned up. But i cannot recall what it was. the reason i'm asking is because i decided a 250pf across the NFB resistor sounded really good in giving the top end a better more sprin...

Re: Great Tweed Tone
With most of the parts for a 5E3 build on my bench, I found this video the other day. Great tone and playing IMHO. I would be pleased if I could get even close to this sound with my build. Common sense tells me to go stock and then start tinkering, but damn that amp sounds good! The obv ious differ...

Re: Excessive current draw-possible bad multi section cap?
Currently the preamp is disconnected from the amp except the power supply. The grids are disconnected and the preamp is disconnected from the amp by disconnecting the circuit at the volume pot input. It is currently just Plate and Kathode. I've tried three different tubes in socket with similar res...

Re: Red Plating and Bias
Yeah, I understand the need for bias voltage at the control grid. I was just curious how fast red plating occurs in relation to bias cap and filter cap charging time. I never considered it until I read the other post I referred to. Like I said, I either leave the SB switch in the off position, or a...

Re: Red Plating and Bias
Below my post is a quote from tubeswell, from another thread... It made me curious. I do not think I have ever seen/observed tubes that were conducting, but did not have a negative bias at their grids. Do tubes "red plate" pretty fast if their heaters are working, their anodes have a normal voltage...

What's a Pocket Rocket...I don't know how one would make a TW Rocket any more scaled down. Is there a schematic ?mclmk8d wrote:rj had built this Pocket Rocket a while back for me. ]

Re: Holy Hell! Fender Super Amp. Mid 90's.
I'm speaking of the Pro-Tube series, sometimes also called the Concert I think. Says "Super Amp" on the front though. (snip) . I can empathize with you. I bought a discounted Fender Prosonic from GC in 1999 (after the party, BTW) , took it home and opened it up. I realized that the PCB had been rep...

Re: Fender Blues Junior with bad distortion
I've fixed a ton of these and i can tell you of two extremely common problems with them....the circuit traces where the output tube sockets are soldered separate due to heat all the time. Second, the sockets need to be retensioned. Some of the cheapest most unreliable sockets ever ! If it's not due...

Re: This kind of pisses me off
I didn't say they had a "right" only a reason and all to often they confuse the two which ends in a hassle. There is no reason at all to hassle this forum, just because a member posted the web-site link of the 'bad guy' who 'ruines it for the rest of us'. That would be like charging a guy with bein...

Re: Questions about 6V6 Rocket
Could be under-rated pre-amp tube plate resistors..what type (CC,CF, MF ?) and wattage rating did you use ? I've often heard complaints of "frying bacon" sounds from amps, but have never experienced it myself or read of a definitive solution being found.
