Question about Trainwreck Komet 60 PI Circuit

The Komet 60 has a 220K resistor following the coupling cap on the V3 plate. Why ? I've never seen a resistor used at this position before. Is it acting as a signal attenuator in concert with the 1M on the input grid of the PI ?

Re: Express done...need help calming the hisss

I would shorten the plate wire to V1 , run it over the top of the socket. You can also go with a 1w plate resistor. A dale RN65 is 3/4w and very quiet, good mojo too. If you really want low noise, Parallel the V1a/b, use 2 100k plates parallel for 50k, and use paralled 1.5k for 750 cathode resistor...

Re: Express done...need help calming the hisss

Thanks guys... I will try the 7025. I have a bugle boy in v1 now, its better, but still hissy. Put a "rogers" mullard, I think, in V2 and RCA 12ax7 in v3 I am getting more change with the presence control which is cool. I put in a pair of Siemens el34s that I bought specificaily for the build and p...

Re: Express Tones On-Record

I asked this a few years ago, one that came out that I just *knew* was an Express...Bryan Adams. I don't know the album, but I heard some tunes on the radio and I thought - wow, that sounds just like Glen's 'Wreck! And in my old thread, someone said Bryan Adams. You mean this one... ;-) http://www....

Express Tones On-Record

Besides Glen K's excellent examples of TW Express tones, are there any other recordings of which it can be said: THAT is a TW Express being played ?

Re: What makes an amp clean up well when rolling back?

Thats the basic of the PCollen for sure! I understand this entirely, but the Express goes from clean to distortion without a big volume change like other amps. Try going from clean to distortion on a cranked Super Lead, theres quite a volume difference compared to an Express for instance. Thats wha...

Re: What makes an amp clean up well when rolling back?

the express does this so well because it compresses at higher gain levels and the compression lifts when the volume is rolled down. This is due to the power string design, high primary impedance and gain staging design. it's more than one contributing feature of the design. It's because you are pro...

Never heard any difference with/without them. But I use them to protect the tubes, and the spring inside keeps the tubes firmly seated in the socket.

Re: Proximity of output tubes to speaker magnet

Reworking a small combo amp. I'd like to horizontally mount a quad of 6V6s and a couple of them will wind up having the bottom edge of their glass about 1" directly above the magnet ring. Too close?? Please and thanks. a) http://music-electronics-forum.com/t18428/ b) http://ampgarage.com/forum/view...

Re: Question regarding NFB

@ the original post: I think what you're referring to is the feedback loop 'breaking down' when there is a lot of gain. I can't explain this phenomena off the top of my head, but I pretty sure that what you were thinking of. I could understand this happening when the signal into the PI continues to...
