Re: new d-lite blowing fuses on power up

To rock mumbles- Thank you! I rewired the switch per your instruction and it now works correctly with no blown fuses. I made it through the rest of the power up successfully without any problem. Next up is to refine my bias supply to get some more negative voltage to the grids. I'm at max negative 1...

Re: new d-lite blowing fuses on power up

OK- have had a chance to check replies (thanks to all the input BTW). I have moved the IEC ground to its own dedicated spot, and moved the center taps to their own dedicated ground. Looking back, I should have realized that grounding almost everything to the same point was not a great idea. I checke...

Re: new d-lite blowing fuses on power up

thanks for looking- I know the pics are hard to discern what is going where. I believe I have it wired how you are suggesting already. One side of the switch has the hot (through the fuse) to one lug connected with one side of the indicator light and one leg of PT primary, and the other side of the ...

new d-lite blowing fuses on power up

hello everyone- Just completed my first d-lite build (after a couple successful TW builds) and it is blowing fuses instantly when trying to power it up with the bulb limiter. I am using the brown note layout with chassis, Edcor trannies, and boards from RJ. I am using the progressive off-stby-on swi...

Re: bias supply for d-lite question

tone merc- you are the man! thank you- exactly what I need on both counts. I thought I looked everywhere for that wiring diagram for the switch, everywhere except where it was I guess. Thanks again

bias supply for d-lite question

hello everyone- I am starting an "ogre dog special" build with a kit courtesy of RJ. The edcor PT I am using has no bias tap and I am wondering how to develop the appropriate bias voltage supply without it. Should I use a 220K right off the AC a la TW/Marshall? With the 220k, 10k bias pot, and 10k f...

Re: Kudos to RJ

another +1 for RJ- I just received an ODS amp kit from him. He has been nothing but professional, knowledgeable, and accomodating. We are lucky to have him as a resource. Thanks RJ

Re: EI EL84s

I have a quad of EIs in my rocket-ish build and have used them in a matchless lightning type build (15 watter). I would agree with sharkboy's take that they have a forward high end (nice and sparkly to my ears). Not as balanced as the mullards I have, but not as muddy as JJ's. Decent breakup, good c...

Re: way too high AC voltage

The PT is a Heyboer 11410 that I bought from Toneslut a while ago and I don't remember the exact specs, but it is for an express. My DMMs are measuring differently- one is measuring 185 VAC from the wall, the other is getting 158 VAC from the wall- maybe time for a new DMM. :? Grounds all seem to be...

way too high AC voltage

hey guys- i've been messing around with different style preamps on an express type power supply. I haven't touched the power end or replaced the PT, but I noticed that I am now getting over 900 VAC pre-rectified which is translating into about 580VDC on the plates of my power tubes and increasing my...

Re: parallel triode question

you need to test the paralleled tube sections for dc balance and scale Rp, Rk. could you use a dual triode with matched sides for this? seems like if the same Rp was tied to both plates, the only difference would be the inherent current draw of each side. the parallel causes simple addition of the ...

Re: parallel triode question

thanks for the feedback ken. already got the soldering iron warming up, :D . i agree with you about the 2204 sound- always seem to come back to that for some reason. anyways, guess i've got lots of circuit tweaks to try, i'll repost to let you know how it turned out.

Re: parallel triode question

thanks for the input. i didn't realize that the grid stopper, Rp, Rk, and bypass cap values would need to be changed as well to keep the same response. however, i noticed that the matchless uses the parallel triode while keeping the same AC30 values for plate, cathode, and bypass cap. Is this just t...

parallel triode question

hey everybody- looking for a little amp guru wisdom on the benefits/drawbacks of using a parallel triode method on v1 (ala matchless). From what i've been reading, this method is used to reduce noise and increase gain originating from v1, but at the expense of desirable 2nd harmonics. Is there any o...
