Re: My take on Eric Johnson's Steel String Singer #005
Here's a better layout. It is only missing a 1meg resistor at the input jack AFAIK. Feedback network consists of a 220k series resistor and a 4k7 resistor at the tail of the PI. The only thing the presence pot does, is gradually paralleling a 100n cap to that 4l7 resistor. You can vary the 220k seri...

My head and that joke weren’t even close to one another Martin, sjees. In most part I’ll be getting back to the comments later this weekend. But thank hou alle for replying! Here’s one question: would you say Peavey does a good job wrt ground management in say the first iterations of the 5150 or the...

I had to look this one up. English is not my first language. I hope I haven't been disloyal to you or anyone on this forum. If so, I'm truly sorry and will correct it if possible.martin manning wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2024 8:53 pm It's simple. You have to dance with the one that brought you.

Re: New design humming - help requested
Missed a point of you R.G. Trem is grounded at the buss bar going to the star ground at the input jack. It is not directly connected to the trem components on the board. It is now silent. I hear no hum to speak of and also no ticking artefacts. Will rewire as you suggested, which would mean all grou...

Re: New design humming - help requested
R.G and Bepone, yes this pcb needs some redesigning. It was made in quite a hurry, which is never a good idea. Currently the CT connects directly to the chassis, but cathodes of output tubes and mains filter ground go there as well. I will change that to a single wire and add the CT to the PCB. All ...

Re: New design humming - help requested
Thanks all for your contributions. I think I've found the biggest culprit already and as expected that was in the grounding scheme. I grouped trem, screens, B+ and output tubes cathode grounds together. Those went to the main ground point near the power transformer. That is where I normally ground t...

New design humming - help requested
I loved the Benson Monarch reverb since the first day I played one. Simple, great sounding amp. and I love the über simple reverb. But I wanted a bit more: tremolo. So I thought, how about a Tremolux 5e9a kind of tremolo? Works on the paraphase cathode, so should work in a Monarch. I figured it shou...

Re: SSS heater lead dress
Have a look at the SSS#001 gut shot. Clearly Dumble used the method from the first picture. I'd call that the Marshall method. Pretty silent in low gain amps. Must add that the visible grid wires in 001 all pass the heater wires at more or less a 90 degrees angle. I strongly prefer the third method,...

Re: ODS Preamp In A Box
There are some good ideas for preamps on this forum. The recent SSS and Pentode preamps would be a good place to start. Those have an SMPS. I think it would be a bit of a challenge to build a dual triode preamp with a transformer in a stomp box, though it can be done.

Re: Revisit High-Plate Classic with a 5-piece chassis
I’d be happy to guide you through the process of covering with suede. I think it’s actually simpler than covering in tolex, just more time consuming.
I’ve done quite a bunch of amps in suede already. Really fun to do IMHO.

Re: "A box later" Dumble
This looks amazing Ryan, astonishing how fast you developed such a nice product. Even Dumble approved fonts on the PCB's. With a TL062 this would probably even run of a battery.
I'm curious to see how the frequency response of the loop is and how well it works with long cables.

Re: OTS #102 to #060 (without reverb)?
Hi. I've received the C-lator. Sounds better and different now, I think. The tone is warmer and more fluid. More compressed and less harshness. Still the amp is best for LP and tele, so I will chase those mods. Doing the tone stack mod first will convert my amp into a high plate classic like the #9...

Re: CF driver Va - Vk voltages in SSS consensus?
And while I'm at it: schematic... Some obvious liberties taken: FET on relais, OD ratio and presence control. The wiring on the can cap is a bit strange: OD and clean pre are not on the last two PSU nodes. I think this is how it should be, as ODR008x looks exactly the same. I'm not entirely sure how...
