Re: Dumble HRM 50 clone excessive hum/buzz

Thank you very much martin for taking the time to help me. Are these two resistors supposed to be of high power rating or 0.5-1W? I will install them and change the PI tube in approximately two weeks and i will report on the progress here, for future reference. Hopefully you will have it sorted out...

Re: Dumble HRM 50 clone excessive hum/buzz

The 12AU7 in the phase inverter will cause the lower plate voltages there. The 280-290V values are for a 12AX7 that draws only 1mA or so. The 12AU7 draws a lot more current and will drop the plate voltages. Why not use the standard 12AX7 there? Are you using a power transformer with a center tap on ...

Re: A bit too much bass on OD - 2nd Gen Hybrid

Having said that, I had the whole rig fired up to try a Fulltone ABY with buffers, I did not like it and it has gone back, but with my usual BigShot and Cornish style buffer, the bass is definitely under control it seems, although I still am on just under 2 on the bass pot. EDIT: Gave up with the E...

Re: A bit too much bass on OD - 2nd Gen Hybrid

Hey Bill, thanks for that. I will try it. I forgot to mention I was tuned down a whole tone to D at the time. In fact I liked it so much that guitar is staying 11s and D now. Thanks again, I will hit them both down to 1uF and see where we are. I also sent the EV12 off for a recone so that will be g...

Re: A bit too much bass on OD - 2nd Gen Hybrid

I managed to playout at some decent volume last weekend. I noticed it was bass heavy when cranking the OD. I've done a search and as usual come up with a bunch of different possible cures. Is there one surefire way of cutting the bass in OD? Clean sounds fine! I am using a SwampThang in TL806 style...

Re: 3rd Gen Dumble or Two Rock JM Sig?

Sooo... I have stripped son's barely used Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, certainly one of the worst sounding all tube Fender amps ever made, and am going to build the medium power amp I need in this chassis. The build quality, fit and finish, and toughness of the Fender HRD cabinet top notch and I can use ...

Re: OD Vibrolux

My guess is that the 33K to ground is on the switch. It appears to be elevated from the tiny board. "N" is clean, "1" is with the 33K to ground, and "2"(obviously the user's fave setting) is with the 33K lifted. This gives a boatload of gain of course, and although it's a different amp, the one in ...

Re: OD Vibrolux

That makes the most sense. I had it in my head that the rotary was more of a voicing switch than a true channel switch, because of the 3 positions Anyone else have an idea as to why three positions on that switch? There's already an OD treble bleed on the back, maybe two different gain option? Bill...

Re: SSS #002 Preamp Cathode Followers? Why?

Hi there, Can anyone here share some insight onto why the SSS #002 has the preamp cathode followers (V2B & V3B) on the posted schematic? I can see that they both feed the preamp out which would be helpful as half an effects loop but it seems a little overkill to have two of them and use them to mix...

Re: Need Transformers for a D'lite

It's been a while since I've had to do anything with a D-Lite - but if it were me the issue is making sure the transformer fits in the chassis cutout so you don't have to fabricate an adapter. If i recall, the D-Lite used a Bassman transformer with a couple of special taps for the 5V relay supply. Y...

Re: My SSS 001 As Built, Corrected Schematics

Just for the recored - #001 and #002 are basically the same amp with the exception that #001 has the Tremolo and #002 does not. Mixer circuit, filters, power amp etc... are all the same as are the layouts.

Re: 3 Tube Reverb:Is this a Missing Resistor in Your Schematics?

Hey, you have the same initials I do, I am William J Doran, funny coincidence I suppose. Anyways, my impression of this reverb circuit is that it is overall very natural sounding and all those NFB loops are there to smooth out unnatural sounding elements within it. I used a 2 spring tank (the only ...
