Aspen Pittman

Just read on Norman’s rare guitars page that Aspen was killed in a car accident last night. Not sure if it’s true or not... He’s been an influence in our community for many years, between founding groove tubes and the tube amp book, we’ve all had some interaction with one of Aspen’s products. Sad to...

Re: Corporate providers!?!?!?

Cancelled our FIOS package 2 months ago and not looking back! Was paying nearly $190 for the triple play package, DONE! Went to optimum internet for $40/month, picked up a ROKU, use it to watch HULU for $7/month. Picked up an inexpensive digital antenna, gets us 12-15 local channels. Bought a magic ...

My guess is the cab wasn't deal enough, I imagine these cabinets were made much in the same way that ken built amps, whatever material was on hand.

This is the first cabinet that I noticed with a face frame on the front and back.

Re: Can Caps in Express

I feel like we are skipping over one point. KF used common grounds in the real deal. Look at the layout, all 40uF's are tied together, and the last 2 20uF's are tied together, and they all terminate on one lug. I'm sure we all agree that they're are better ways to do it, (maybe not "better", possibl...

Re: I've seen the warnings. What's the actual result?

I've read posts on TAG where people are discouraged to use an EFX loop in an Express build based on possible sonic results. OK, but has anyone actually tried it? Since the one from George at Metroamps was created for a typical Marshall Plexi circuit - and the reviews are good - I am pretty convince...

Re: Problem with startup

Im sorry. I meant to put the -in front. I reinstalled the trim pot properly my max reading at pin 5 is now -35.7ma without the tubes. I'm going to make the assumption that you skipped over rdjones' comment about measuring voltage, not current. I'm also going to make the assumption that you wrote -3...

Resistor Temperature Coefficient

I need some help understanding exactly what/how this rating is calculated. When a value is given of let's say 100ppm/C, is this essentially saying a resistors value may change up to 100ohms per 1M value. In other words, a 1M resistor at 70C can be 1,000,100 at 71C, and so on? But a much smaller valu...

Re: RIP Lady

Sorry to hear Tom. After nearly 10 years we had to say goodbye to our first born Mia in March. She was a hell of a dog and this was easily the toughest decision I've ever had to make in my life. Made one more Express for myself just before she left us, aptly named "Mia"... [IMG:596:799]http://i23.ph...

Re: Tips for an Express build

One thing I always screw up are the OT leads. I've learned to leave the OT primary leads at full length and temporary solder them in place to confirm I have the proper OT wire going to the proper tube. If the wires are swapped, you'll get a horrific squeal that'll wake the neighbors. Only cut the wi...

Re: Free recording software?Success!Clip added

+1 for Reaper! They give you the software/license for free, they just ask that if after your "evaluation period" you decide you like it and are going to use it, you send them $60, which I think is very fair when you compare it to other similar software. I def think it's worth checking out.

"Justradios" caps

Anyone using their caps? I searched but the last time the orange "dips" were mentioned here was back in 2010, figured maybe theres been more experience since then. Their price tag is attractive for film caps and mica caps, and there's 2 schools of thought for that, they're either crap, or just cheap...
