Re: How to switch between tube recto and SS?
I really liked this idea, but my cat didn't seem to agree with me on this one.......
Ahhh, I'm more of a dog person anyway, who needed a cat?

Re: Express with bigger bottom?
Just curious if you tried any of these mods, and if so, what were your findings, likes or dislikes?

Re: Express with bigger bottom?
Comparing the "taylor" rocket schematic to the "kelly" express the biggest things that stand out are the 50p treble cap in the tone stack of the rocket compared to the 500p cap in the express. This doesn't really add bass, but more scoops the mids and highs out some. The rocket goes even further wit...

Re: TW Xpress Problem
thanks for the advice, the poping noise is heard both with a lead pluged in and also removed...........I do have a spare socket, i will replace it regardless If the amp makes the noise with or without a guitar plugged in I would doubt it was the input jack. One thing I forgot to mention is to turn ...

Re: TW Xpress Problem
Most of the problems I have had to troubleshoot where the symptoms were a popping sound, ended up being a intermittent contact. If your input jack is a shorting jack check it out, they can wear from the fatigue of plugging and un-plugging the guitar. If not, a chopstick test would be in order to try...

Re: Volume control not working on express clone.
Normally when a volume knob is not functioning properly and is stuck "wide open" the pot has lost it's ground reference. Even though it looks good do a continuity check or just redo the solder joints. I'm betting that is all it is.

Re: Teach me diode bias preamp?
I have a pile of 4000 series diodes, some unused 5v zeners, and a couple hours to be silly. I would like to know about biasing preamp sections with 4001/7s or the zeners on a common split-cath Marshall instead of 820/250 on V1a cathode. Merlin has a schematic showing some other diodes in a series p...

Problem solved
No schematic but....... Turned out that the traces to the pot were damaged also. looked like a good connection but it was intermittent. Had to replace the wiper trace and one of the other traces with a wire. The biggest problem was a loose connection on the three prong connector to the board from th...

Re: Dead power amp
Thanks Cliff, I think finding a schematic might be the hardest part. Crate was bought out by another company. I found the schematic at that sight a while ago, but now I can't remember the name of the company that took over Crate. I want to say......Tapco???? will do some more looking. It's Loud Tec...

Re: Dead power amp
Should have several internal fuses. As long as the power amp had a load when powered on I would suspect its OT is good. Keep in mind some fuses are also in the form of diodes. Look around the protection switching its most likely a one time use fuse. That will need to be replaced. There were four in...

Dead power amp
I have a Crate SPA400 power amp (chip) . It was banged up in transport and had a leg busted loose on the volume pot. I did not catch it until I had powered up the amp and tried to use it. I went ahead and fixed the issue with the pot, but no output. It has a input signal (led flashes). Normal...

"sag"
Electrically speaking, is there any difference between the "sag" created by tube rectifier circuit and one built with a SS rectifier and a smaller ohmage, larger wattage resistor immediately after? I am talking as far as the pre rectified PS, and the post rectified circuit see it. Does it make a son...
